SNES Classic coming September 29th
Re: SNES Classic coming September 29th
Boo to digital-only! The only way I'd be sort-of okay with it is DRM-free. (Even then, my Internet is so bad that large games would be brutal to download.)

My internet is probably one of the best in the area, and downloading anything too big takes forever. I'm actually impressed I can stream movies at all sometimes.
Re: SNES Classic coming September 29th
I recently got my speed bumped up 3.5x to 50meg connection and the sites I've hit so far that actually bother to climb into that realm is quite nice where I see 6-7MB/sec downloads.
That said, still with Sarge on that statement of his, but there are ways around it too to a point.
I suppose one could get a really nice Pi clone snes shell and throw a couple buffalo pads at it and call it a day other than the menu not being the same. Or just wait it out, I'm sure some of you are aware now that the NES CE was properly cloned, the EU version at least.
It has a few shortcomings like english only(despite menu being copied) and no save states (aside from that being inked on the menu too) but it runs all those nice 30 games Nintendo denied a lot of people. It even uses HDMI, Wii style jack controllers, and the box other than some slight cardboard cuts or maybe a font being off a pixel or so even copied the manual, box, and other junk as well.
I could see a SNES one coming shortly after the cut the cord on the SNES CE as well.

Guys, it doesn't matter how fast your internet is, if the servers are shit. Sony's for Playstation, for example, are terrible.
Own: Sega Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PS Vita, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Xbox 360

That is true, too. All I know is that I don't relish the thought of downloading 50GB of data over a 4G pipe. I have to bring the PS4 to work whenever I have a big download, and that includes patches, which have been on the order of 20GB at times.

So much this. My connection tests at 350 Mbps, and only Steam has ever fully utilized that for download speed, and even then, I can rarely get that much speed out of Steam's servers.

Yes!!! I happily await an all digital world!!!!!

You can all keep your damn digital future to yourself.

I play digital games on PC because I have no other choice. Most PC games aren't available physically these days. But console is physical only for me. I miss out on a handful of good digital only indie games now and then, but it's worth it. I like owning the games I pay for, I like not having to wait an hour or more for them to download, and I like having a physical copy on my shelf. If consoles ever go digital only, that's the day I stop buying consoles.

Yeah, just look at Turtles in Time Re-Shelled. You can buy that game any time your wish due to the fact that it's digital only!

The correct answer, as always:

If you have both then you offer a way to get the game outside of expensive resellers and you ensure that the game will still be available if the digital copy gets removed.
Unless, of course, it's an online only game, in which case tough luck I guess.

Who said anything about being able to buy something any time you want?
