I HATE Professor Layton!

Post by Mozgus »

This is the first game that might actually make me destroy game hardware. I've never felt this kind of rage before. Challenging and unfair games don't have this kind of effect on me. With those, I just blame the developer and walk away.

But with this, I feel like it's insulting me directly. It's really got me wondering if I'm half-retarded. How can children play this game? 7 puzzles in, and I've only actually been able to figure out one on my own. The rest, I had to use all 3 guesses, and then about 3 - 6 tries, and two of them I had to even skip (matchsticks and the clock).

What the fuck, people?

" I suck at this game, its not fair, boo-hoo"

it takes time dude, the matchstick ones are very hard i will give you that, but the point of the game is to be challenged, no one said it was easy...also, although it is cartoony, i would argue that it was not marketed towards children...i thought it was a great game, challenging at times, but its good...hang in there, the story ends up being pretty cool too

It sounds like you're mocking him, when, in fact, that's exactly what he's trying to get across. He's not insulting the game - he's insulting himself.

I didn't think the matchstick puzzles were too hard, but i'm an extremely visual person who went to 4 years of art school so those puzzles might be playing to my personal strengths.

All you really have to do is take a breath and spend 10 minutes looking at a static image/problem and figure it out. Not let it get it to you. It is very counter intuitive for the normal mentality of a video game. Usually with 'problems' or 'puzzles' in video games i just start trying shit until midway through i realize what i'm supposed to be doing or it just works... that or the puzzle is pants on head retarded easy. Layton is a refreshing change of pace from that. You just have to go in not like you are playing a video game, but playing the puzzle section of a newspaper and try to remain focused and not loose your cool. It is more you vs yourself than you vs game IMHO.

See, I dont have the patience for this. If I cant figure a puzzle out in 10 seconds, I just get too annoyed to even think, and then all chances of even finishing the puzzle are gone. The rage distracts me from any critical thinking.

Yea, I just started and it is frustrating but I'm still into it. It helps if you bring other people into it and work on the puzzles together, makes you feel like less of a retard.
