my guess is that they don't really care, given how hard it is to keep Switch in stock right now anyway. :?

lol wut? CRTGAMER, what decade or country are you living in? No one pays any up front costs to pre-order anything any more. The only exception is Kickstarter or similar indie projects.

If you want it bad enough not to overpay, show up. I don't like it, but don't see an out since people won't police their shit from manipulators.
Because no one gets in line and buys multiple copies of something to then resell later. It's only people who can preorder who do that.

My experiences have confirmed this. Resellers may stop by when people who did line up are getting their systems to offer you cash.

A reseller at the toys r us that I lined up in to get the nes classic tried to pick up his preorder of 40 at the service counter.... and was politely told that he was getting 0.

Right. Most retailers, whether they be online or highstreet ones, have rules on the number of any one item a customer can purchase. It's usually stricter and enforced more for sought after products like the SNES Classic.

That's actually a rule that applies to nearly all retailers in the UK and most people don't know about it. There was controversy here recently in the media because some charity workers who were buying food for a homeless shelter were turned away from a major supermarket, because of that very rule (they were purchasing food in bulk).

When I was working retail in a big superstore we had guys who would try and buy all of an in demand Nintendo product and we would have it limited to 1 or 2 per customer depending on the product (2 for amiibo, 1 for systems).

They would try and gives us money to break the rule, but no one took it. This was super rare and only happened twice in my 15 years of retail.

I think they already did. Remember a couple things. Someone hacked into the Switch recently saw it has a built in NES emulator already with some weird name to it. And also originally it was supposed to be like a monthly free NES rental swap out, canned to now have an entire library to choose from day one that doesn't expire as part of your $20 fee for the year. Seem they likely were thinking just that, definitely if they toss the SNES in there too.

-- And MrPopo, oh I've seen it attempted locally through various Nintendo launches, but thankfully stores will let someone take one, or if they argue are told to get out which pretty much serves them right. At the NES CE launch a year ago there were two in line looking to flip, got dirty stares and comments from the others in line. Pretty ballsy admitting it as you never know how someone else would react (especially if they didn't get one.)

Yeah, the only one I know of that makes you pay anything up front is Gamestop, and even they on charge a $5 deposit.
