I do not agree there and am curious to know how you came to that conclusion?Segata wrote:. I feel there is more put into Dear Ester as a video game than anything David Cage has done since PS3 era.

Cage makes badly written films from a guy who loves the word "emotions" & "cinematic" but not understanding either. You just expect a pointless sex and possible rape scene because well Cage is the Tommy Wiseau of gaming. Hell The Room the game (free fan made game) is actually better as a video game than a QD "game". Using sixaxis to undo a bra is one of the dumbest things in the history of games. My god that was cringe. Most the time you watch a poorly written cable movie with mid 1990s lifetime channel quality.BogusMeatFactory wrote:I do not agree there and am curious to know how you came to that conclusion?Segata wrote:. Dear Ester is just you controlling the character and free agency when you wish to progress and where to explore. QD is just Cage living out his fantasy as a movie director and slaps on some bad QTE's to qualify as a "cinematic" video game. If Cage tried to make this dreck as actual films...he would be looked at as the same company as Uwe Bolle and Tony Wiseau. So damn pretentious for someone who is so poor at writing.I still cringe at "new movie" instead of new game on the main menu for I.P.
Lastly one of the few times I ever agree with this one because he is absolutely right.

I politely disagree with your statements. You are upset about a games script writing, stating specifically the ps3 era.. the era with which their writing and story is more solid than their previous titles.Segata wrote:Cage makes badly written films from a guy who loves the word "emotions" & "cinematic" but not understanding either. Heavy Rain is a very enjoyable game and storytelling experience. When you reference a bra removal qte.... are you referencing heavy rain? Because that isn't in the game. Even during the Ethan and Madison sex scene.... that doesn't happen.
With Beyond: Two souls, the story of the game isn't bad, merely the execution of its fragmented timeline holds it back. Add to it a more confusing qte system that is ambiguous and difficult to grasp in intense situations.
I am sorry that you don't enjoy those games and all I can say is that they aren't for everyone. Yes, they are linear in nature and that isnt a negative.
That is like saying that skyrim is better than Final fantasy 7 because it's a sandbox. Two different styles of games doing two very different things to create a story and experience. They both can exist in this world and both entertain folks. Luckily, we live in a world where there is almost an infinite number of games from an almost infinite combination of genres to enjoy.
It really is a good time to love videogames.

Conversely, you don't gain anything by calling Mountain a video game, either.MrEco wrote:You don't lose anything by calling something like Dear Esther a video game. Except maybe internet cool guy points with other people who don't like it.
I also don't believe art criticism should be decided by what angry gamers say online.

You gain something with inclusion at all times. You gain perspective, a new experience, a new tale told. You lose that by excluding.

but by excluding games you get to pretend you are better than the people who like them, and we know this heiarchy of taste is essential for any nerd community

Love them or hate them, walking sims and the like count as video games. You can't just go redefining words because you don't like them.Dictionary wrote:A video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device such as a TV screen or computer monitor.
Dude, that's uncalled for. Yall both need to chill, but Erik, that was too harsh. You owe her an apology.Erik_Twice wrote:How about you fuck off from the forums again?
