Re: "gamer logic" nonsense that annoys you
Going back to my thoughts on games being toys, here is how I look at this.
If you have a football (soccer ball for you in the US) and you kick it, you are playing with it. However, if you pick it up and bounce it, or throw it, you're not playing with it wrong - you're just playing with it differently. The toy is the same, but the game you are playing is different. If you you use the ball as the head for a puppet and do a puppet show with it, you're definitely not playing the game of football as intended, but you're still playing with the toy, and it's not a 'wrong' way to use the ball.
The same goes if you have a chess set. Chess is a game with a very clearly set out set of rule which are the intended way to play. However, if I decide that I want to play the game minus the bishops, that's still an acceptable way to play if my opponent agrees to it. Maybe it's not the optimal way to play. Maybe it unbalances the game and makes some pieces overpowered. It's still an acceptable way to play with the chess set, even if the experience of 'chess' as a game is not the same. It's also acceptable to ignore the game rules entirely and to act out a little drama with the king and queen and the little horsies.
My point is, if we consider games as toys, then Street Fighter, the game disc, is a toy. That means if I want to play a version of street fighter where I button mash and never use throws or throw a fireball, that is an entirely acceptable way to play with street fighter - it's not wrong. However, if I intend to play Street Fighter the game, then maybe I'm not getting the full and best experience out of it - again though, playing something poorly doesn't mean you aren't appreciating it on some level. I'm terrible at most sports but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate them when I do play them, even if I ignore the offside rule in football and don't know how many points you actually need to win a game of badminton.
Likewise, if I play Gran Turismo but decide that I want to go around the track backwards and do donuts constantly instead of racing, it's not wrong that I am playing with it in that way. But it is true that I am playing a different game to someone that is playing it as intended.
TL;DR: Video games are toys, and you can play with toys however you please. Video games also come with intended rules for how to play them, and if you don't follow these rules then maybe you aren't playing the same game someone else is. That isn't wrong, but it does make the experience fundamentally different.
I agree with Marurun that the only 'wrong' way to play a game is if you play by different rules in multiplayer when others are trying to play as intended. The reason for this is because you are trying to force your own game on others who want to play it a different way, which is simply rude. It's not a matter of right and wrong ways to play, it's just a matter of etiquette.
