I remember shortly after I got my HDTV I felt like such an idiot after trying to use a lightgun. The thought process was something like, "Why isn't it wor-....... ahhh, I'm such an idiot!"
I just saw THIS on eBay. It claims to work on all screens, including LCD, plasma, and even projector screens. I had no idea this existed. I bet most of yous will be thinking, "so what, this is old." I'm always out of the loop with this sort of thing.
My question is, does any one know HOW it works on LCD screen? In the auction, it looks like two sensor bars in the stock photo but it doesn't say anything about them. I can't see how they'd work with out sensor bars. I did some google'ing on the matter but I only came up with ads and forums with dead links.

It works exactly like a Wiimote. It has two sensors on a bar you place under/above the screen so it can measure where the gun is.
It doesn't use the screen at all.

yeah at each end of the wii sensor there are a cluster of infa red transmitters all pointing at slightly different angles and each tranmitting a slightly different signal. The sensor is on the end of the wii remote and reports which signal it can see, and this can be used to tell where the remote is pointing. This gun will be the same sort of idea.
Nice looking gun though

Wow, I wasn't aware this was possible or available! I would love one of these that works for the Saturn and Dreamcast!

The EMS TopGun has been around for a while. It's very popular with the MAME community, as it can emulate a mouse pointer in any modern OS, which makes all lightgun games in MAME instantly accessible.

Are there other alternatives, or is it pretty much the standard? And is it a high quality peripheral or something folks use because they have to?elvis wrote:The EMS TopGun has been around for a while. I have that gun,I tried to mess around with it for a couple hours and it wouldn't calibrate right
Maybe I just got a broken one because everyone else that bought it got it to work.

Yeah, I figured those were sensor bars, I just wanted to be sure. I couldn't find any info on it.
If it's as good as they say it is, I plan to get it for use with MAME. I sure hope the quality is some where around 'high' considering the price of it. It also boasts recoil action and vibration features, so it's the best light gun I ever heard of.Ack wrote:Are there other alternatives, or is it pretty much the standard?
