As for my SNES... well, I still use the same one I found in a yard sale all those years ago. I think that would have been 1995.
I got my NES in early 1992...but I was about 4 months old, so that hardly counts (my mom won it on Jeopardy but had no interest and kept it untouched until I was about 5 and she needed to get me out of the way when moving into a new house).

The SNES, I'm ashamed to say, I didn't get until I started collecting around 2006.

My NES was a hand-me-down. A friend got a SNES and decided he no longer needed his NES as a result. I benefited from that.

Cool beans. Just curious. :) I'd played an NES before that, of course, but the parents basically got one for us because we were so hooked on trying to play one at other folks' houses when we visited. I would have been 11 when I finally got one.

(That being said, my interaction with them was fairly limited. The first time I saw one was the previous Christmas, and I saw them playing SMB. I slept over at a classmate's house, and they played SMB and Top Gun. And I visited another classmate and briefly saw The Legend of Zelda. Holy cow, that was amazing to me. Oh, right, and the cool demo kiosk at Walmart. I wish I had one of those. I remember trying out a few on there, like Kid Icarus and Zelda.)

So, back to the SNES. Given how long I actually had to wait to get one, I'd basically convinced myself that I didn't necessarily need one, and the NES was fine... but I clearly still wanted one badly. Finding that one at a yard sale with Final Fantasy III just made my year. It supplanted the NES, but only for a little while, because I still think that overall, the NES has the stronger lineup of platformers.

I got a NES around in '87 or '88, I think.

As for the SNES Classic, I learned very unfortunate news today - Europe and especially Nordic countries are getting royally screwed with the prices.

Assuming I keep my pre-order in, I'm going to be paying EUR 149.90 or USD ~172 for it. Holy balls.

Ouch, expensive.

And yeah, Reprise, c'mon, man, what a noob. ;)

(Honestly, I'm just glad that there are folks that got into the NES and SNES later and still love it.)

I find it hard to admit it but it's true Sarge, it is nice, just the fall out from it hurts more with far more interest but it's a give and take. If you're getting into it now you don't know how it was so it doesn't hurt so much as the expectation is already set.

I guess we ran off crazy pants eh?

I don't think they were crazy. Just someone with a chip on their shoulder.
