What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

:D Got paid today, and with all those extra hours, I was able to rationalize getting 2 $100 Amazon Gift Cards to get my PS4.

I've set aside $100 for bills (or emergency if I'll caught up, depends on if anything happens) and still have cash for groceries.

I eat cheap and work at a pizza restaurant. Also, I only eat breakfast if I'm awake during the usual breakfast time. If I sleep through breakfast, I just skip to lunch. Though if I'm awake for breakfast, 99% of the time it's because I stayed up all night and end up sleeping through lunch. But if I skip both meals (shit happens) and I work that night (I'm only scheduled Friday, Saturday and Sunday, though the rest of the week I could get called in 2-3 times), then I just get something there (either a personal or a small, though ironically the small is actually bigger than the personal, with double pepperoni). Between that, the fact that Pizza Bites are 2/$5 AND buy 2 get 1 free (just bought six 40ct bags of Bacon Pepperoni) until Wednesday (I think), and the fact that I still have 2 and 5/6th six-packs of ramen and some other shit to eat (I still have two chicken breasts still frozen in the freezer and just need less than a few bucks' worth of stuff to make chicken noodle soup), and my groceries are taken care of.

The only real luxury that I may end up buying is eggs to make brownies (some time ago, I bought three boxes of mix that were part of a buy 2 get one free sale, as is so much other stuff). Of course, I still have a few unopened boxes of Cocoa Rice Crispies Treats (on sale for a buck each).

American-grown rice typically sucks (unless its Cali rice) and is high in arsenic. But dried beans, man, that's the way to save money and eat healthy. Lentils, beans, all great stuff. But make sure you give yourself a week to adjust, because the gas, oh boy.

My two cents is if you can articulate and have a thought process, you should be able to reason and control emotions. Yes we all sometimes get angry or other extreme emotions, but that is who we are. No point to stress on it adding to the anxiety, just control it. Don't blame or depend on mind altering prescription medication, control your own destiny!
CRT, there is little difference between chemical imbalance in the brain and a broken arm. Both are physiological conditions. Exercise can very often HELP to manage chronic anxiety and stress (and likewise depression), but is rarely a full solution by itself. As with any disease, the best way to manage chronic anxiety and stress is through a combination of medication and lifestyle management. I have issues with anxiety and I take medication for it. Lifestyle changes I haven't managed to make would help, but they wouldn't fix the problem, because I'm just biologically wired for it. It is something that runs in my family.

It is actually very dangerous to propose that people can somehow overcome their psychological issues by force of sheer will. This kind of talk might discourage people from seeking the kind of treatment they need. And it can often worsen anxiety and depression. People who believe that willpower can overcome those diseases but then fail to overcome them themselves internalize that failure, which in turn feeds into their depression or anxiety. It can easily become a spiral from which people don't recover.

That didn't take long.

Today was my third day at the new job and I couldn't take it anymore. I was more depressed there then I was at the previous job. Sometimes, money is not everything.

So, I am currently unemployed and kind of going through a midlife crisis at 35. I really don't know what I want to do with my life. I am going to take some time and try and figure that out.

My favorite local game store is hiring, so I'm going to try that. I could do that while looking for another job or finding out what I really want to do.

Sorry to hear Markies. Keep your chin up. If your heart wasn't in that job, something better is bound to be on the horizon.

I had a similar experience in 2015... landed my highest paying job by dollars and it was the most miserable I'd ever been. Somehow made it 6 months there and left on a good note, but wow I was crumbling and those 6 months were like real life Silent Hill. It was surreal darkness. But without taking risks and not settling for that junk, I wouldn't be where I am now! Hope you find something much better.

Also... this is just me speaking personally, but it eventually hit me that I was living to work and not working to live. I focused too much on finding that perfect job or getting that big paycheck. I lucked out with the good job that I've been at for awhile now so "easier said than done" of course, but once I stopped focusing so much on work and put all that energy more into life and things outside of the jobs, I got so much happier. Work isn't life.

I might be looking for a new employer in the near future. I'm certainly planning to only put in at most one more year here, but I might leave as soon as a couple weeks from now. They recently decided we all need to sign non-competes, and the current language is way too vague. They said they were going to be releasing a revised one because of all the feedback they've been getting, but depending on the final version I might just say cya right now. If it's scoped down well then I'll stick it out a bit to collect on some stock drops coming in the next 12 months. And the real reason I'm not feeling it with this non-compete is that it's the latest in a line of just overall troubling things coming out of the new CEO's office.

Ooph, leadership change, and suddenly things ain't so copacetic, eh Popo? That sucks.

So far nothing has happened in my department regarding the big purchase we are going through, and likely nothing will. Which is good, as I'm busy as hell. Between my job and extra curriculars, I'm spending a lot more time on email than I used to. When I do play games, I mostly just binge on modern stuff lately. Even the laptop I was playing older stuff on is being used now for a teaching assistant role I took in a class, so I don't game with it much.

Yeah. I think he's doing what he think needs to be done for the good of the company, but he's not doing a good job on the messaging and it feels like while he might have a vision, we're at the Phase 1: Do prep work, Phase 2: ????, Phase 3: Profit! style of planning.
