:( No sleep last night...

 Crash around 9-10am and didn't get up until after 4pm...

:D Probably because I got my AC going again. Turns out it was because the wall panel's batteries went dead. And it turns out that all I needed to do is pop in the batteries I took from the cable box remote from the living room.

:D And my mom gave me an early b-day present... a $100 Amazon Gift Card! Not sure if I wanna splurge it OR wait until payday, snag another gift card and a grab a preowned PS3 and softmod it. Would a 500GB model suffice? Can it emulate PS2 games? Anyone recommend any good imports? They have to either already be in English, have minimal text or be fan translated. Any other titles to recommend?

Start watching craigslist now. You being able to do the softmod could bag a $100 or less deal on a PS3 with a decent sized hard drive, maybe not a lock for 500GB, but it's something you could upgrade into.

Though I read that there might be an issue, since the mods require that the official firmware be no higher than 3.55, while the most recent firmware is 4.81! I'd need to be careful not to get stuck with a PS3 that cannot be softmodded in the near future.

a 3.55 firmware ps3 is gonna be tough to find tbh. Most people updated their firmwares.

IIRC there isn't a way to downgrade without hardware mods btw.

What plans do you have once you get it soft modded? And wouldn't it be better to use the gift card on some essentials you might need for NYC (like a hotplate)?

E.X. Troopers. It's a anime like spinoff of Lost Planet series. While it's not in English it maybe one of the most import friendly games there is. It's a fun as hell arcadey and light hearted Tird Person Shooter. Kinda feels the Mega Man Legends 3 assets went to this game. Easily one of my favorite PS3 games.

If you care about Physical it has a English version of Strider 2014 from Japan.

Physical version of Dungeon's N Dragon's Tower of Doom/Mystara.

Not an import but a a fantastic game that get's overlooked is rain. Just called rain with lower case. If into Ico like games or those emotional but silent adventure games it's one to pick up. Main character is a boy and you can only see his outline in the rain.

Also unless you are downloading a bunch of digital AAA games even 250GB is fine. I had my PS3 for 5 years and not even close to filling it up.

That's why I'm also considering getting a PS4 (it's cheaper).

First off, I plan on playing PS3 games, mostly whatever I can't play on PS4 via PS Now or a remake. I never got into the PS3. It's the first PlayStation system I haven't owned. Also, I'm hoping I can play PS2 backups on it.

And finally, are you talking about something I'd need in NYC despite not having any cash saved up and no idea if I'd be going any time soon? Plus, I'm enjoying my disposable income now since I won't have any in NYC, and that's even if I'm working 60 hours a week. Part of my budget is to pay a second month's rent in advance (renting a room, no more than $700/mo), along with the first month and either the security deposit or last month's rent. And that way once I get a job, and then another job, I can get ahead on my bills and rent so that way, after a year or so, I can dial back on my hours at work and spend more time working on my filmmaking (though any free time the first 1-1.5years would be spent working on writing, some socializing and earning some extra cash).

Also, why would I need a hot plate in NYC? Most/all apartments I've seen on Craigslist have at least some kind of kitchen that'd suit my needs. Though I'd need a crockpot.
