Re: Summer Games Challenge 2017 - Begin when ready!
Scramble
BurgerTime
Pole Position
Kung-Fu Master
Hikari Shinwa: Palutena no Kagami / Kid Icarus
Life Force
Wonder Boy in Monster Land
Bloody Wolf
Lords of Thunder
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
I'm getting my ass handed to me.
BurgerTime is impossible. Well, it may not be "objectively" hard but I'm terrible at it. I've studied strategies, read the StrategyWiki article... It all makes sense to me, but once I actually play the game I fall apart in the heat of the moment. The furthest I've made it is level three on the Intellivision. Sad!
Pole Position is an old Namco driving arcade game. Sort of a precursor to OutRun. I attempted an emulated arcade version on Namco Museum: 50th Anniversary and it controls like absolute crap. The steering wheel & pedal controls didn't translate well to a PS2 controller, it seems. I also have the 2600 port, which is a lot more fun. I've made it to lap three of four (I think?) but lane-changing cars keep slamming me. Like OutRun, there's little room for error here. You're allowed maybe once crash per playthrough.
Kung-Fu Master, or Kung-Fu as I'm playing on NES... stiff, slow, up for jump. Yikes. Made it to floor two.
Gonna put these on hold and dive into Kid Icarus when I have a chance. FDS version first. May also play the NES game if I beat and enjoy the disk original.
Oh, and although it's not on my list I decided to play Super Cobra (the sequel to Scramble) just for yucks. Pretty fun, and I beat it on maybe the fifth attempt. Games Beaten post coming when I have time and motivation.

Apparently, I decided to take a break from my Summer Challenge to play...The Goonies II (NES). It has all the mechanics of a really good game and none of the design. (It is the epitome of cryptic, trolling 8-bit gameplay. I mean, you get a critical item by randomly punching an old woman 5+ times.). I am following the letter of a GameFAQs walkthrough, and I expect to be through it soon.
I will return to Mario Kart 64, and I will probably have that one done soon too.

Late to start, but here's my list:
1. Silent Hill (PS1)
2. Eternal Darkness (GC)
3. Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain (PS1)
4. Legend of Mana (PS1)
5. Grandia (PS1)
Gonna leave it at five games, as I know Grandia is a long one and I'm not sure I can even manage these. I do have a good start on Silent Hill now, and will hopefully finish it in a few days. It's living up to expectations right now, and I can really see why this is considered a horror classic.

Yeah I played Silent Hill 1 for the first time in 2014, it's incredible.
There is one puzzle in particular that is completely insane though.

It's actually really impressive how well the atmosphere has aged in +18 years, it's still creepy as hell and puts most modern horror titles to shame. I just finished the school and entered the church, and will be playing more today.
After having played and beaten Silent 2 and 3 over the past few years, the series really did have a well-earned reputation for excellence.

Okay, so you got past the piano puzzle. How hard was that? Or did you cheat and look it up like I did after awhile? haha.
Yeah seriously these games have aged disturbingly well. I think the horror genre can age gracefully with their use of shadows/blacks and all that. But Team Silent were ahead of their time. I still love Silent Hill 4 as well, but I guess I'm in the minority.

Funny you mention that, I figured out the entire puzzle on my own EXCEPT for the fact you had to play the dead notes :/ Finally got fed up and looked it up, feeling pretty miffed. Great game, can't complain though. I will say that playing this game in a similar way to the Resident Evil games on the same console can be a recipe for disaster, as enemies have very tricky hit boxes and it's often better to fight than to run. After playing and beating both RE2 and RE3 and then coming to Silent Hill, it's a noticeable change in strategy.

So what mod(s) should I install to play STALKER: SoC at the default gameplay/difficulty but with better graphics and stability?

1. Silent Hill (PS1) - Beaten
2. Eternal Darkness (GC)
3. Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain (PS1)
4. Legend of Mana (PS1)
5. Grandia (PS1)
Finished Silent Hill today, wonderful game, if a bit too cryptic with some of the puzzles at the end. I played through mostly on my own without using any help unless I was really stumped, and only managed to get the bad ending, though I had the special item to prevent this, but didn't realize when I had to use it. This definitely seems like a "Strategy guide game" if you want to get the good ending and unlock everything. The last few puzzles are indeed bonkers, with two I probably never would have solved on my own. Gonna take a break from the horror and fire up Secret of Mana shortly.
