SNES Classic coming September 29th
Re: SNES Classic coming September 29th
It would be a shame if we didn't get an N64 mini, although the lack of Rare titles (other than Donkey Kong 64 - which I don't really care for)would hurt it a bit for me, as it's the one console that looks really bad on televisions these days. All my other retro consoles are hooked up to my TVs via RGB Scart and look great, but the N64 only supports composite for some bizarre reason, unless you have it modified. Well, it does support S-video, but I don't own a TV that has S-video input (S-video was never really used in the UK).
Own: Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PS Vita, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii U, Game Boy Advance, DS, 3DS, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox, Xbox 360

I already have a HDMI modded N64 and I imagine every game they would be likely to put on it except maybe the Mario Party titles, but I'd love an N64 controller compatible with my Wii. The N64 Virtual Console games don't feel right on a Classic Controller, and I'd like to play Sin & Punishment with the authentic controls.

A lot. Don't remember the exact price, but somewhere around the £250 mark all in, including the fact that I needed to buy an N64 off of eBay (I only had the Pikachu model, which is incompatible with the mod without 3D printed parts).

That shuts down my enthusiasm.
I have so much regret with my N64 that I need a redemption arc with it. When the PS2 came out I sold like 30 some games for Armored Core 2 and a controller or something. I love AC2, but holy crap. I haven't touched my N64 since then, I think it's the longest I've ever had a console out of commission, over a decade at this rate. It's still not one of my favorites, but I want to get it out someday and rebuild the collection a bit. lol
Still got Zelda OoT Gold and MM CIB at least.

All this talk on the n64. Crazy I use to be a fan but the only games I ever played was wwf no mercy and wcw nwo revenge.
If we can just think of 25 games that would be on the system for a n64 mini release what would they be in all seriousness without the rare gems and games like wcw revenge or wwf no mercy I think it might be hard to do.
The top ten would be easy
Mario 64
Mario kart 64
Mario party at least two of them
Mega man 64
Paper mario
Diddy kong racing ? Maybe but I thinks it's a rare title
1080 snowboarding
Zelda
Zelda majora mask
Pilotwings
Mario tennis
Mario golf
Not sure what others off the top of my head

Can't say I've never meddled with the thought of the HDMI N64 setup, but it is intriguing. At least I still have my original one from the day it came out 21 years ago. Yup N64 is officially able to get drunk to justifiably excuse away the blurred vision it supplies in some games a bit too much.
At least I can admit to having a cart converter, Sin & Punishment, and also Bangaioh. Hell of a deal I got that day. Two huge crimes committed on the US market not releasing either. Best set of Japanese only games we never got (since I don't count Animal Crossing or Cubivore since they hit the Cube.) I hear Evangelion is solid but I don't know looking at it.
I think if a N64 CE did hit, anything developed and published by Nintendo is a given other than not stuffing all 3 Mario Party games on there.
If Disney were in the mood and with Star Wars being hot stuff, they may license out Shadows, Ep1 Racer and Rogue Squadron. Naboo uses a nasty little CIC Indy shares that emulator weenies for nearly 20 years haven't figured out.
Capcom and Konami would be game again so I would think Mega Man 64 would do (but RE2 no because kids) and then you'd have the 3D Goemon, maybe Hybrid Heaven, ,maybe Star Solider since they own Hudson now, and Castlevania Legacy of Darkness (since 64 is unfinished buggy crap.)
Now unless Ubisoft (Rayman), or Treasure(Mischief Makers/Bangaioh) got on board looking at the rest of the publishers/developers I can't see any of it working out at all.
Rare stuff is a NO as MS is too greedy to take free advertising.
Midway is dead and WB I doubt would care.
Acclaim is dead, other than Turok(who owns it?) they sucked
Activision didn't put out anything useful that wasn't Disney or Tony Hawk really, and Quake.
I think despite expenses, I can't see them justifying a N64 unit with less than 20 games so if they had to offset their $10 VC ROMs they'd probably charge $90-100 on that vs $80 on SNES.

Rakugakids was also a good N64 release. Also I think Diddy Kong Reaching was a pack in at some point.
Re: SNES Classic coming September 29th
I find the inclusion of the two Kirby games on the European model to be bizarre as he was never a popular franchise in Europe and games like Super Tennis or even the Japanese choice of Super Soccer would have been more popular.
I don't think I even knew who Kirby was until Smash Bros for N64 came out.
I guess it's because the European model is really just the US model with the Japanese shell.
