Heh. Well, I've got better, less obtuse RPGs that I still have yet to finish, too. I mean, I still haven't finished any of the Infinity Engine games! Pillars of Eternity is the only one in that style that I have beaten.
Plus, realistically, I'm 37, about to be 38, and I have less time than I did in my college days, although I have more than when I was growing up. I really need to start prioritizing what I play better...
...which is totally why I played through Castlevania: The Adventure last night.

Maybe the dub is terrible? haha, but yeah maybe Taro Yoko's early stuff is a bit sloppier and not great. Those games just sound like a mess in every capacity and are just weird for the sake of being weird or something.PartridgeSenpai wrote:Drakengard literally came about because that team liked Ace Combat. They wanted to do Ace Combat but with a dragon. That may all've been well and good, but then they thought "Well, Dynasty Warriors is popular, so why don't we put in a ground combat element as well?" The problem is, the team clearly had no concept of what made either of those series fun to play. And so the well-written clusterfuck that Drakengard 1 was born :/
I'm pretty fascinated by how much control and power a creative director can have on a game though. Maybe Platinum just did their homework, but it's amazing how they developed Nier Automata when it feels 110% like Taro Yoko in a great way. The perk it has over Nier and the Drakengard's (sounds like it) is more polish and Platinum being bigger than what Cavia could do and whatnot. But I wonder if Square Enix had some of those staff members who maybe worked on Nier help as well. It's just really cool to wonder how much one person can shape a game. I knew full well to expect it wouldn't be a Bayonetta or like Platinum's other stuff, but it's just incredible how much influence Taro Yoko has on every single aspect of the game and the vibe.

Re: Games Acquired 2017
Drakengard 3 is okay the combat is pretty good and some of the boss battles are great. However to get the true ending you have to play through the game around 8+ times although some of the alternate branches are shorter. You also have to collect every single weapon which can be a real drag unless you really like grinding the arena for money. Finally I will say this for the 100th time I loathe the final "boss" segment and believe it to be one of the biggest "fuck you" moves I've ever experienced by a dev the last battle is what feels like a 10+ minute rhythm game which allows for no missed notes and gives you like a 0.1 second window to input ques, gives you no check points, and at times obscures the visual ques and/or audio ques(which are delayed about 1/2 a second anywaysPartridgeSenpai wrote:In my experience, Drakengard is like if Nier were really really badly paced with bad/uninteresting combat. At least the first one was. I've heard the sequels improve a bit on that formula, but it's still Drakengard at the end of the day. I hope you enjoy 3. 1 turned me off so much I won't touch the series with a 10-foot pole, connection to Nier or not XpXeogred wrote:$46.99
If prices are anything to go by and not being able to find New copies online, I believe Drakengard 3 is probably out of print. It seems like a gamble buy, sounds like it lacks technical polish and all that, but maybe I won't care. It's still directed by Taro Yoko and composed by Keiichi Okabe, and everything I've heard makes this game look and sound more like another Nier game. So I want to grab it before it gets more expensive.
