Yeah, I favour this. Breath of the Wild could've done with out the little it had just fine imo, especially as I hated a lot of the casting choices.

Not to sound rude to most of the users on this forum, but American accents in fantasy games really fight against my suspension of disbelief for some reason, and pull me right out of the game. For some reason I'm A-OK with this bird man talking to me, but talking to me with a Brooklyn accent I can't gel with at all.
It needs to be a rule that all fantasy characters have English, Welsh, or Scottish accents. Nothing else is acceptable.
Can you imagine Fable, set in Albion, with American accents? No way.

Meanwhile, GTA did American accents right (at least the first couple, I stopped playing them after San Andreas).

When it comes to games I don't care because I read fast so I ignore and skip the voices either way as long as it's not forced which is rare anymore.

Anime though, dub all the way. It's not just about the story but the cartoon itself, and if I'm reading through the entire damn movie I'm just not enjoying it as much.

This is funny, because I tend to think the same about British/Old English in games lately (pardon my ignorance hehe). The accent feels very forced. I roll my eyes whenever I hear it in like Xenoblade, or Breath of the Wild (Zelda of all people was appallingly bad to me, but I know I'm in the minority here about that). Thank goodness Xenoblade was dual audio... people don't seem to know that Japanese Vegeta voices Dunban. 8)

What games/characters have Brooklyn accents though? I'm dying to hear them dude haha. That's a very strong accent even to us here. That or the South.

I did not know this about Xenoblade! I almost sold the game due to the terrible voices. I now can finish playing it in peace.

(This applies to the Wii version, yeah?)

The accent was not forced. They were British actors because Nintendo of Europe localized it and honestly the VA was really good. I was really feeling it!

It really depends. A good dub can make something more immersive while a bad dub can ruin it completely.

I think if you at least recognize a lot of common Japanese words and phrases, subs become easier to get into as well.

I think my opinions pretty much line up with Michi. In games I prefer dubs because subtitles are distracting (unless it's something like an RPG where I'd be reading text anyway). In anime it really depends on the quality of the dub and most newer dubs (when they happen anyway and for a lot of stuff I tend to watch they don't) are usually fine. With live action dubs are way more annoying than subtitles.

It's weird but I've kind of come to like subtitles on for everything ever always.

Sub. I think the performance of the original actors are an intrinsic part of the artistic direction of the game and would rather keep it.

This is consistent with my views on other media. I try to read on the original language if possible (Spanish, English, French) and when it comes to movie I use subtitles as needed.

On a side-note, ocasionally dubs become painful to me. There are often serious disconnect between characters and their voices, you can tell it doesn't fit their body. And while you are not supposed to notice, it hurts to hear Asian characters speaking as if they were born in Valencia.
