Need help or ideas for arcade cabinet

Post by mas »

I recently just picked up a x arcade two player tank stick for dirt cheap. The guy did not know what he had lol. Anyways I ordered the adapter for my PS3 and Xbox. My intentions is to use my modded xbox with coin ops 7 already installed.
Now I want to buy a legit arcade cab but don't have hundreds to spend and I'm not very good at woodworking. So I'm thinking of maybe some type of microwave stand or an computer stand for it? Also what do you recommend for a screen 19 inch in going for but LCD or a crt tv or a computer monitor? Any ideas would be great. Thanks

My advice would be to keep an eye out at used furniture/thrift stores and keep an open mind. A little paint and elbow grease can go a long way.

I recently had a similar idea/goal to have a dedicated cabinet for my light gun gaming. I wanted something that would sort of add to the arcade feel. I remembered this old tv cabinet that I bought years ago at Goodwill for $10, it had been sitting in my mom's shed for a whiiile. I finally was able to put it to good use.

Still looking for an old CRT that'll fit the space perfectly, but you get the idea. :D

On the XArcade site they sell what is basically a box with a LCD tv mount.
I agree that all you need is a stand and a tv mount.
When my MAME pc in my can broke last month I debated the coinops xbox route, I chose to fix the pc (basically replaced it) so I could play pinball (side buttons on tank stick is perfect) and the newer fighting games. Coinops is a great choice too.

Just keep trolling your local craigslist for arcades, my advice is to just search "arcade" in the front page search box, you will search all categories this way. This tactic paid off when I found my Neo Geo big red cab hiding in the collectables section! I often seen abandoned projects and empty cabs listed, My first cab was an empty Donkey Kong I got for 60 bucks, needed paint and some minor wood work I did with regular wood filler. It is running a 19" CRT TV hooked up to an OG xbox with Visionary 3 (very similar to coinops)
