I was at a popular spot w/ 4 stops and one of our gyms waiting on my cell phone group to announce the event start, but it didn't start till about 20 minutes past the time, as soon as it did, 2 Rhyhorns appeared. I've seen them, Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl, and more. My group also alerted me to a Larvitar, my first one!

Be on the lookout for Slugma, because its evolved form, Magcargo (which I got today as a result of all the candy) is Rock/Fire. It's got Ember/Overheat, fantastic for training. This is going to be a great event, so get out there!

One of the eggs I got yesterday had my 2nd 100% perfect, a Scyther with Air Slash/X-Scissor. It will be another good one for the Psychic types and even Exeggutor with that Flying-type quick attack.

There are Slugma EVERYWHERE in London, when there were zero before. Shouldn't be long for me to get Magcargo. Also seen Omanyte, Kabuto, Rhyhorn, Geodude and Sudowoodo already too.

Hoping to get a few Larvitar so I can finally get a really good gym pokemon, seeing as I don't have Snorlax, Dragonite or Blissey. I'll catch some Rhyhorn in the hope of a good Rhydon too I guess.

EDIT: just found a wild Aerodactyl too. It's my 2nd, but it's good to see this Rock event actually being worthwhile - the pink event was pretty meh, and I literally didn't see any grass types during the grass type event.

Well, this turned out to be a good event.

I caught a small army's worth of Geodude (they were everywhere), including one with perfect stats (it's my second one 8) ), enough Rhyhorns to max out my 2nd Rhydon (the other is in a Gym and will have to wait), found my second Aerodactyl (it sucked) and caught several new:

Shuckle

Didn't catch any Larvitar, but the game was nice enough to give me one in an egg, so I guess we're square. I also spotted several Onix, which are never around here, so it's clear the devs were at least trying to make up for the worthless Grass event a few weeks ago.

Overall, I'm pretty happy.

Yes, this was a great event. Finally got my Larvitar and Shuckle, and a whole mess of Rhydon candy to give all my good ones better CP. Team Valor is still dominating but now that school's out for the year here, I expect a few shakeups.

I stocked up on Rhyhorns too. I picked up my first Magcargo, found a couple of Larvitar which gave me enough to get a Pupitar, and also found an Aerodactyl, which I didn't need, but hey, it's rare.

The quadruple candies also got me my first Scizor too.

I actually had a good bit of luck outside the rock event too though. I found my first Sunkern, immediately followed by my second. I found my first Phanpy, and my second too. I hatched my first Elekid. I caught 5 Abra, all with Pinap berries, which means I'm only 8 candies away from Alakazam now.

New event starting next week:

We will be hosting the Solstice Event starting on June 13, 2017. This in-game event will feature Fire-type and Ice-type Pokémon, huge XP bonuses for throwing Poké Balls accurately, and discounted Lucky Eggs in the in-game shop. Soon thereafter, you can look forward to a new update focused on collaborative group gameplay features that will get you playing Pokémon GO in fun new ways. In preparation for these exciting features, we’ll be temporarily disabling Gyms for a short period of time.

Be on the lookout for more Fire and Ice types, which can be very hard to find in my area, at least. The announcement about the gyms I'm sure has to do with the promised upcomng overhaul. The Niantic representative over at The Silph Road said 1) we will have advance notice as to when the gyms will be temporarily shut down and 2) all Pokémon in those gyms will be returned to us (with full health, hopefully). So that means those I've had in gyms since November, December, January, February, March, AND April are coming back. But in the cases of the earlier ones, we will be able to power them up at least. This means no more 20 gyms for me, for the time being. We'll have to see how the new overhaul works.

Fire types are pretty rare here, and it'll be nice to have a chance to try and find some moreCyndaquil and Houndour, both of which I need to evolve.

Ice types are fairly common here though - Jynx, Shellder, Swinub and Sneasel are all pretty common, and Seel isn't super rare either. I guess an opportunity for more Lapras is nice though.

Interesting.

Looking forward to the new event. I think I've caught a whooping 2 Cyndaquil and Houndour since they dropped, so more fire Pokemon will be appreciated. As will the ice types. They just don't show up here in the south.

I am a bit bummed that the Pokemon I have in gyms will be getting sent back to me, though. I've held a couple of them for months. But like you said, it'll be a good time to power up the once that get sent back to me.

Houndour is fire? I thought it was dark.

I caught my first one of those and a snubbull here in town yesterday which surprised me, also my first clefairy in over 6mo and it was amazing. I got so many of the snubbull I got a near perfect evolved one in my roster, but never quite got enough dogs for the other so that helps...plus it was proud so I need to check it against what I had.

Fire rarely pops here other than ponyta and some slugs and occasionally the magmar, rarely cyndaquil and half as much so the charmander which sucks.

I hope this event pops those rarities for here as I'm quite fed up having roster holes due to their dumb designs. I can accept the ones you need to travel for, but I've been at it 11mo now and I still haven't got all of the local Gen1 stuff and not for a lack of trying. It would be nice to get a porygon, jinx, and a few others some day before I tire of it.

I like that, killing the gyms. Too many squatters, and it will allow them to do something with their stuff anyway so it's not a loss. I really wish they'd revise the gym setup so people can't just lord over them permanently because they either have no lives, or pay up a lot of cash to advance in a way to always be on top. It excludes a lot of people from enjoying a good chunk of the game.
