This weekends On the Media was excellent, digging into media bias and partisanship. One of the best segments was an interview with Thomas Patterson, a government and press researcher at Harvard, who argues that media coverage isn't really guilty of left/right bias so much as a negativity bias. He offers some great examples of what effect this has on public perception. I really encourage you to listen to that segment of the show. It is roughly 10 minutes, with a couple minutes of "please fund us" promos at the front and back end. It helps put a lot of things in context.
