When you play SMB3 and SMW back to back, I think you come to the realization that SMW is better. :P

Aesthetically I like SMB3 a lot more though, its blockier world is much more surreal in a cool way. Oh yeah, I'm talking a lot about atmosphere in old Mario games here. Heck yeah! And the variety in the different worlds and powerups is top notch. But SMW's levels are a lot bigger and everything it does is basically perfection. Plus Yoshi, before he became lame after the SNES!

I've always liked DKC1 more than DKC2, despite it being a lot easier. But both are perfect basically.

Zelda II rules. No haters allowed.

Super Mario World doesn't have Kuribo's Shoe; therefore your argument is invalid.

I'll take SMB3, personally. I still have that hangup with the Mario physics in World. Yes, I'm weird like that. I also like the smaller stages overall. World is still very good, though.

Yoshi's Island rules over all platformers on SNES, though.

I'll never be sold on that. I'm stuck in my ways. SMB3 for life.

I prefer Super Mario 2 and World to Mario 3. I think Mario 3 if fun as hell and paved the way for World on the snes, but it's not my favorite by a long shot. The levels are so short by the time I get to enjoying myself the level is done and I'm back at the world map. Most boss fights are boring and the best ideas in this game are perfected on World, which overshadows it.

Mario 2 has so much charm and quirky enemies. The ability to play as four different characters with all their own attributes was also a novel concept to me as a child. The aesthetics and music are some of my favorite on the nes. And yeah running from phanto was survival horror on the nes.

PS DKC2 is king of the platformers

Nope. When I play them back to back I'm always amazed at how much stronger the level design is in SMB3. I consider SMB3 the pinnacle of 2D mascot platformer design. SMW is good and fun and all, but SMB3 is that perfect sweet spot of simplicity and complexity.

What about the New SMB series? Have you played those?

The physics and platforming are a bit different than the traditional 8 and 16-bit Mario games. Different, but certainly not better or worse. They're four rock-solid 2D Mario platformers (five, if you wanna count Super Luigi) just as good as their NES and SNES counterparts.
