I don't think she did either, but it gets awfully close to it.
Then again, even B-list celebrities seem to have enough money to escape consequences of this kind. Look at Ted Nugent.[/quote]
Well she is D list celeb status she even thinks so lol.
Definitely not funny, but it definitely seems like a part of the political climate these days. I remember the Bush days well, and Pres. Obama wasn't immune, either. Of course, the fact that Pres. Trump is significantly more bombastic and antagonistic than those two seems to amplify the effect even more.
I dunno. The fact that Obama is a black man brought out lots of crazies during his term in office. There were a lot of nutters who could not stomach the idea that a "Muslim born in Kenya" was president.
Oh, I know there were certainly some of those. Definitely not saying there weren't.
Interestingly, I think GOP leadership was a lot more circumspect with their criticism of Pres. Obama for that very reason. They were definitely worried about the optics of really lighting into the first black President. Democrats don't have a similar problem with Pres. Trump. Not to mention Pres. Trump makes himself a mighty big target; sometimes intentionally, sometimes not...

OK, now I KNOW we are on different Earths not located in the same universe.
I think it depends on the GOP member and where they fell in the party. Boehner would oppose Pres. Obama's policies, but the two appear to be on good terms. But the Freedom Caucus/Tea Party candidates were a significantly different story.
Yeah, and Boehner effectively was pushed out of politics as a result of trying to take the high road. One needed only look to McConnell to see where the GOP was really trying to go.
Oh, they went after him, but it's nothing like the vigor with which Pres. Trump is getting hit with. (Again, not surprising given Pres. Trump's temperament.)
I'm sure much of it is perception, though. You probably think Pres. Obama got it a lot worse than Pres. Bush (or Pres. Trump right now). I'm trying my best to be objective about it, but it's hard sometimes. I could definitely see opportunities where the GOP could have given more than token resistance, but they didn't. If anything, the whole AHCA deal kind of laid bare that much of the GOP's rhetoric was just that: rhetoric.
No question there were factions that were willing to get after him, but most of the leadership (like John Boehner or McCain) were rather measured in their criticism. Folks like Sen. Cruz were much more aggressive in their criticism, but in many ways he was a pariah in his own party.
As for McConnell... well, despite what he may say, he's rarely dug in his heels until recently with the Supreme Court pick. I think they played that whole thing rather poorly, however, even if I found the final result advantageous. (And turnabout is fair play, and I have no doubts the same thing will happen when the Democrats are in the same position.)

I agree with you, but I'm not gonna get into it here. This forum generally leans hard left, and that's fine. But as a moderate I find the bias to become quickly exhausting.
I'm still in that uncomfortable position where Pres. Trump does things that I can appreciate, and things where I facepalm. I don't really "root" for my side like some sort of sports team like I used to, and perhaps that was the real positive, at least for me, that came from this election. I think now that the vast majority of our politicians, on both sides, are utter charlatans.
I actually stopped calling myself "Republican" back before Mitt Romney got the nomination back in 2012. This election just crystallized it. (Not that I had anything against Romney, my issues were more with the party as a whole.)
