Yeah, the Crystal Guardians are one of the major roadblocks of the FJF, more notable by the fact that they come long after you've gotten all your jobs and have leveled them reasonably.
It's also a battle where the Berserker really shines, because they are vulnerable to Death. I've actually done runs where I had to heal a crystal because Death hadn't procced yet and their HP was getting to the desperation part of their AI script.
Honestly, the Fire rings aren't really worth it. By the time you get access to buying them again in World 3 you also have access to the Running Shoes which are lightyears better when you don't have a Time Mage (and they're pretty good even with the Time Mage because they block some negative statuses). Personally I think you end up being better off tossing Elixers for late game healing, though you can still keep an elemental shield on your Dragoon and use that to top him off when needed.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Yeah, I am actually over leveled when it comes to the game. I'm in the mid-30's, thanks to all the grinding for items and killing I have been doing.
If it wasn't for that Flame Shield I had equipped on my Dragoon, I would have never won. They are fine until they get close to death and suddenly start casting Earth Shaker, Aero3, Fire3 and Aqua Rake. Aero and Fire were doing around 800 damage and that is most of my health.
I didn't realize that Stores sold Elixirs. I just looked them up and they sell for 50K, but that is still super nice. If I'm in a dungeon for a while, I'm beginning to run out of MP. I was lost in the Moore Forset for a bit and I almost ran my MP entirely dry.
I was so happy when the stores started selling Hi-Potions as those helped a ton. I will probably be doing several hours of grinding to get a good stack of Elixirs as those will be needed at the end of the game.

Yeah, the period in World 1 near the end gets pretty messy if you don't roll White Mage or Thief since the only buyable healing item is the regular Potion.
The way I probably would have done the Crystal Guardians with your party is give the BM and Dragoon Summon, keep Rapid Fire on the Ranger, and Black Magic on the Summoner. I'd keep up Golem throughout the fight (btw, if you don't have Golem GET HIM). That'll keep you safe from their physical attacks. Then I'd start spamming Titan with Gaia Gear on the three people with casting abilities, counting HP as I go. When I got close to their tipping point (which I believe is 2000 HP remaining; I'd look it up in the Algorithms guide) I'd wait until all my turns were up and then back to back Titan on everyone to wipe them out. That would leave the earth crystal, which you can whittle down to the same point, then have the Dragoon jump, and when he comes down pop Rapid Fire and Fire 3.
And yes, you are overleveled. I usually finish my runs between 30 and 35 and you still have the entire third world to do. Are you planning on getting Phoenix and Leviathan or just stopping at Flare?

Done 4 mementos in Persona 5 in a row. These are just so easy. This game is easy.

Re: RPG Progress Report
That is exactly the way I was doing it. At first, I didn't cast Golem and I had everybody summon Titan. We then reached the tipping point and everybody died. Later on, I cast Golem and that helped with the defenses. When I finally beat him, we did three Titans, one Golem and then 4 Titans. Unfortunately, the Aqua Rake went off followed by Fire 3. So, everybody died except my Dragoon who had a Fire Shield and he revived/healed everybody and then we all waited to attack the Earth Guardian one last time.MrPopo wrote:The way I probably would have done the Crystal Guardians with your party is give the BM and Dragoon Summon, keep Rapid Fire on the Ranger, and Black Magic on the Summoner. I was hoping to get all of them. I would love to get all the Summons, as long as I can get them and the same with Black Magic. I would love to spam either Bahamut or Flare at the final bosses, Leviathan as well. I have basically been spamming Titan since I got him and that has worked perfectly.
Re: RPG Progress Report
So you don't actually want to bother spamming Bahamut or Leviathan. Syldra is a Wind element attack, and gets powered up by the Air Lancet and the Mage Staff (one of the legendary weapons). This puts its power higher than Leviathan (which can't be powered up unless you have a Chemist) and just a smidge under Bahamut (247 power vs. 250 power) while costing half the MP of Bahamut.

I remember this debate around the original Diablo. Sorta kinda, I guess? Action-RPG, anyway.noiseredux wrote:is Diablo III considered an RPG? I've been playing that a lot lately.

Re: RPG Progress Report
So, if I have the Air Lancet or Mage Staff equipped, then Syldra would do almost the same power but with half the MP? Very Nice!MrPopo wrote:So you don't actually want to bother spamming Bahamut or Leviathan. Are there any bosses later on in the game that are immune to Wind Attack? I haven't ran into that problem yet, but I have ran into several floating/flying enemies that are obviously immune to Titan.
By the way, thank you for all the help!
