I was wondering if this be a waste of time or not. I thought about doing a video walkthrough for Castlevania some years back, but never did (obviously). I use to think that game was the hardest, but I came up with a system to make the game fairly easy.
So what do you guys think? Would this be a waste of time, or will people be interested in it?
Castlevania (1) video walkthrough interest?
Re: Castlevania (1) video walkthrough interest?
...I guess it would be a waste of time, huh? (Seeing as how this thread got views but no replies) lol.
I realize there's videos on Youtube and such of people kicking that game's ass, but I wanted to make more of a guide then just a straight up video of the game. Using WORDS to explain strategies, pausing/replaying to see things better, stuff like that.

I personally like watching stuff like that sometimes. Especially in games like Castlevania 1 which tend to make my ass feel sore. Hopefully you won't be be like a lot of the people who pretty much insult people that can't easily do the things that they show in their video. I obviously suck enough that I need hints to beat the damn game, I really don't need the people in the video to tell me that repeatedly.Ziggy587 wrote:...I guess it would be a waste of time, huh? Anyways, if you make the video, I'll use it to play through the game. I'll give you some feedback afterward.

Well that's what I mean, I don't want to make a video to show off how good I am at it. Like I said, when I first played the game I thought it'd be straight up IMPOSSIBLE to beat, or even get past The Monster's stage.sakicfan84 wrote: Hopefully you won't be be like a lot of the people who pretty much insult people that can't easily do the things that they show in their video. That's why I want to make a guide for it. I find text only walkthroughs for games like these are very hard to take tips from. You really have to be shown things in most cases. On the other hand, sometimes watching just a video of something being done doesn't really explain much. This is why I want to make a blend of both.
I've seen a few videos on Youtube of CV1, and they're not very good to use as a guide. Like some one's "speed run" through the game, and the audio isn't synced up with the video.
Any way, thanks for the comment.
Re: Castlevania (1) video walkthrough interest?
I would appreciate if you do this because my ass is being kicked right now in this game. By the way, what program you'll use to record the gameplay?Ziggy587 wrote:sakicfan84 wrote:

Been done several times already. I don't remember the site for non TAS (Tool Assisted Speedrun) videos anymore tho they are readily available as good playthroughs that are still humanly possible in real-time in Famtasia FMV format but these have them done as perfectly as possible using any exploits possible that the game allows. These usually take the author 10-50 hours redoing each movement in the game repeatedly frame-by-frame until it can't be done any faster. Yes - cheating to the full extent the game program will allow through input from a controller. Still cool to watch tho.

But I don't want to do a speed run, I want to make a tutorial video of the game.
Re: Castlevania (1) video walkthrough interest?
I will most likely use what ever I find to be the best emulator that records game play, unless some one recommends me an easy to use program.alexandre wrote:I would appreciate if you do this because my ass is being kicked right now in this game. Re: Castlevania (1) video walkthrough interest?
Oh, haven't seen a non-speed-run video.
I think FCE-Ultra is the emulator of choice, tho Famtasia was being used a lot too. FCEUX can record AVI, which could then be edited in Windows Movie Maker to easily add comments between clips.

I think its a good idea. It seems quite time consuming though.
