Everspace - I feel bad I never knew until today
Re: Everspace - I feel bad I never knew until today
Kind of burned on that, just very very few blueprints. I wish they would as it appears it could be useful.

You find them in the wrecks of colonial bases. I've only ever located two of those bases but you also need a code key from an elite enemy and I couldn't find one the first time I ran across a base.

can you guys explain the gameplay of this one? To me it looks very pretty, and I like that you can play it in VR. But I don't really know *what kind* of space game is y'know?

The core gameplay is very much an old-school Wing Commander/X-Wing style space sim though it can be played both in cockpit view and in third person.noiseredux wrote:can you guys explain the gameplay of this one? You start the game in a bare bones ship with a lot of mystery around who you are and why you're out in space. The goal is to keep jumping to new systems and get as far as you can while staying alive. In rogue-like fashion everything is randomly generated and you need to find/craft gear and acquire credits as you go along.
Once you inevitably die the only thing that carries over is your money (like in Rogue Legacy) and any special enhancement modules you find. You can use it to purchase perks that will stay with you through every new life (why you can keep dying over and over is instantly apparent in the story).
There is an end to the story once you get far enough though I'm nowhere near that so I can't say much about it, though even once you beat the story I think you can just keep going and going to best your highest score.
It's a more arcadey sim experience with rogue-lite elements. It's not an Elite or Privateer, more Wing Commander meets FTL or Rogue Legacy.

I've seen a few bases but never once a key I could use so the boxes stayed locked so it didn't generate the stuff as I'd clear the area (as much as you can short of sticking too long around for the Okkar mob to show up.)Gunstar Green wrote:You find them in the wrecks of colonial bases. Noise it is, and his description is solid. Other than the modules, it's a blueprint you have to find to carry over the modules otherwise you're stuck with a bone stock ship. Not always the worst thing, but if you get a garbage load with some nasties right off, you're in trouble fast. The game is death, and death grants improvement in your repetitive rogue style life. I agree it's Wing Commander meets Rogue (other than not the you go, I go turn based motion of rogue style.)

Re: Everspace - I feel bad I never knew until today
I had a great run today after not playing for a while, made it all the way to sector 4 and unlocked loadout B for the Interceptor. I also made enough to buy the Scout.
The Scout is good fun and unlike the other two ships gives you the option of playing evasively as dodging fire is easier and the cloak will get you through hairy situations. I usually prefer the other ships so I can blast everything in sight instead of sneaking around the map but it's nice to have the option to mix things up once in a while. I'll probably keep focusing on upgrading the balanced Interceptor.

I finally just eeked out 11500~ in cash last night playing a good hour into it and into sector 4 again too. Finally bought that tank of a ship...very impressive even without the shielding due to that thick adaptive armor (I think of it like the Enterprise show a decade ago, massive hull plating.) It was pretty entertaining feeling how it still due to size skates along a bit even cornering or trying to stop, and that rear turret when flipped on does seem to try and scare stuff away from following and does a decent job of it too.
