Everspace - I feel bad I never knew until today

Post by Tanooki »

Just stumbled upon this news item that popped up, tracked it back to Steam, then back to both GOG and the makers website.

Everspace. Any of you aware of this or even pre-bought into it or otherwise backed it in alpha/beta? It goes final version a week from today.

It looks stunning, has a xbox version if someone has that too. It looks like much what Star Citizen wanted to before years of begging for money, delays, scrappings, re-writings, and adding in other dumb crap that wasn't space flight combat.

It's action oriented, but it's got roguelike elements to make it more risky. You take down stuff, try not to get greased, you can craft better or find better stuff for your ship (or replacement ship), and so much more. Seems to be single player so it's like a really beautiful old Wing Commander love letter in ways I think. The game also seems to randomly create much of everything for your challenges so nothing is the same twice, and challenge could be an easy one or something that'll get an experienced pilot their ass handed to them if they're not really careful. And even then it says death in inevitable.

Just reading up on it and watching what I've seen I haven't felt this interesting or amused by this kind of game in a very long time. Goes for $30 if you buy from GoG/Steam, get a few bucks off if you order direct (you get a key for either site instead) with a few small perks.

Anyone on board with this or like me had no idea?

I've been interested in it since the Kickstarter but I don't do early access. I'm looking forward to picking it up when the release version is out though.

Well according to the date on the Steam/GoG sites that would be next Friday at this point. Basically what is there now is basically a done game, just a small push of fixes over the top to 1.0 I suppose.

Nice! I didn't know they were so close. I'm used to these things dragging on for years.

For ease, the steam version of the press release -- http://steamcommunity.com/games/396750/ ... 2385360534

Exciting news! We'll be leaving Early Access and going into Full Release on May 26th!

The Full Release version will add the story elements with missions, cutscenes and video sequences, as well as full VR support. Next to many tweaks and bugfixes, version 1.0 will also add Steam Achievements and Trading Cards.

The promised Hardcore Mode did not make it in time and will get added post release as a free update. We'll also start working on Joystick support right after release.

The Full Release version will support the following languages: Chinese (Simplified + Traditional), English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Spanish (Latin America). Voice Overs will be available in English and German.

Here's our brand-new teaser trailer:

(follow link I gave for the video)

The game is already basically done. 1.0 adds VR glasses support, and some bug fixes basically along with (for Steam) their achievements (which I bet GoG has theirs in Galaxy too.)

This game is pretty brutal. Even with saved Rouge Legacy-esque upgrades, starting over with your base loadout and being at the mercy of the RNG is rough. I've resisted the temptation so far to do some easy difficulty runs. That said I'm having a great time. Every time I manage to get a little bit further is very exciting and surviving a seemingly hopeless ambush makes you feel like a badass. The story is interesting enough and the banter between the pilot and the ship AI is really amusing.

So far I think this might by my favorite space sim to come along in a long while. Since its a genre that's repetitive by nature the procedurally generated rogue-lite aspect works well enough. It's also nice to have a good new shooty-shooty-bang-bang space sim since most tend to be of the Elite/Privateer vein these days. Sometimes I just want to blow stuff up in a space fighter and this manages to give me that while giving me progression to work towards, not to mention it's just fun... and very pretty.

I could not agree more. I got one astoundingly lucky run that got me into area 4 before I got greased so it unlocked loadout B for my ship which is pretty nice. I don't use it because I've not ranked the rest up enough so the nice gun it has cleans out the energy fairly fast.

I've resorts to mixing it up between easy and hard. Easy really isn't all that easy, they don't get dumber, but you do find more drops appear as do the trading and repair bays which is fine. Easy is kind of like some developers say for Sony games where that's normal, normal is hard, and hard is screw you basically.

I'm glad they did away with basically paying to scan an area as that was crap. The one thing that bothers me it's it's as of yet impossible to save up 10K to buy another ship as I want that badass looking tank, not the wussy fast paper thin pea shooter ship. Oddly they both cost the same.

One thing that's a total death blow that got me earlier, a corvette as they have jump dampening. Until you have enough armor/shield and weapon blueprints to create something beefy you can't drop their shields enough to wreck the ship long before it kills you so it's a game over. I got to area 3 earlier and that happened. I studied the ship a bit, it keeps regenerating floating shield pods, so if you kill one it pretty fast makes another to be sure a low rank ship has no chance.

I had one crazy good run and managed to save up enough for the Gunship, its a beast but its lack of shields is a bit of a problem even though it can take a crazy amount of damage and has great starting weapons and an automatic turret. From what I've heard the scout ship is actually really good. Apparently its ability to equip a cloaking device is crazy useful.

I almost killed one of those Corvettes but it outlasted me by a few hits. Probably for the best because had I survived I would have been in no condition to continue.

Lucky you. I think I topped out in the 7-8000 range at best. It allowed for some nice perk pick ups, much which do roll over other than the bottom box which is ship class specific. I had no idea that paper weak ship had a cloak. As long as it wouldn't get shot out from under you, if you can just turn it on and leave it on to keep some peace in scavenging or finding goodies that would be excellent. The lack of a shield on the big ship isn't great, but the HP more than makes up for it in a fight, plus with modifiers you can get the shield higher in the perk area I think.

Yeah, except for throwing points in the energy perks for the Interceptor I've been trying to focus on the pilot perks so I can stand a chance in the other ships.

Have you found any enhancements yet? I found the crafting one which makes primary weapons that are crafted more powerful, but you can't craft secondary weapons like missiles so it's not that useful because missiles are life savers. They all come with pros and cons which is kind of interesting and reminds me of Rogue Legacy, much like the carry-over perks do.
