Aside from game controllers (of which I've paid ludicrous amounts), the only games that come to mind that I paid triple digit amounts for are Snatcher ($100) and Radiant Silvergun ($150). Had I not bought Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force III when they were first released, they would likely have been other purchases I would have ponied up for. I also paid $60 for just the disc of Suikoden II. Getting the case and instructions would cost me another $60, if I ever bother. I've paid $80 for a few shmups and few Saturn games like Dragon Force and Guardian Heroes.

I OWN a number of games that are worth more now than when I paid for them - particularly RPGs - but that's mere happenstance that I was into RPGs during specific time frames (SNES and PSX).

If the game is good enough, I can warrant the purchase, regardless of "collecting." As far as controllers, I've paid more than $300 for at least three different controllers (one of which was technically a set of three purchases), and a $100 or more for a number more. For a few years I've had my eye on a controller that would cost me over $1000, but that's one hell of a rainy day purchase. My wife would kill me.

And for the reference, I also have two kids. They're going to love some of this stuff when they're older. :) My only hope of ever rounding up nine other people for ten player Saturn Bomberman is now through them!

Do tell. Does this controller also function as a used car, perhaps?
Only expensive ones i can think of are steel batallion controller, or maybe that onimusha katana controller from back when.

I can justify some games as being worth it. I am not a die-hard collector, however I am trying to pick up all the stuff I couldn't get when I was a kid. There is systems that I never owned until recent years. I kinda lucked out on my Dreamcast setup, I stumbled upon this site a long time ago and read about the Dreamcast guides, told my girlfriend what I wanted for my birthday, she spent like 83 dollars on a complete sealed Dreamcast off ebay, and bought me a lot of games, like MVC, Powerstone, Shenmue, Bass Fishing w pole, and a bunch more, the whole cost 125 dollars. To get a complete copy of MVC is like ridiculous, but I would pay the asking price now still, because I think it's a great game.

The default controller is $715. Sanwa buttons boosts up the price quite a bit and then there's the fact that it comes from China, so shipping costs are enormous. It's a COMPLETE luxury buy, as the default Beatmania controller is quite good and is only REALLY lacking in that the turntable distance isn't accurate. But I like clicky clicky and doing doubles would be a joy on that thing.

That's one of the $300 controllers I have for Pop'n Music, from the same company. $100 of that is just shipping. Not as much of a luxury buy, as the only other available controllers that are much cheaper are minis, which is basically like playing a different game.

What does a real one costs? Probably less! Back onto the main question, I'd say only grab the xbox games if you get them cheap at half of the expected value and only then can you brag the hell about it. Unless there were 2,000 copies made and its the only way.
Consoles: NES, Famicom, SNES, GC, GB DMG, GB Pocket, GBC, GBA, DSI XL, N64, VBoy, NDS, 3DSXL, Wii, SMS, GEN+CD+32X, GG, SAT, DC, WS, WS Color, NGPC, XBOX, 360, PS1, PSone, PS2, PSP, PS3, 3DO, CD-I, NGCD, Actionmax, TG16+CD, TE, PCE-DUO, Odyssey2, Playdia, 2600, Lynx & JAG.

A real Beatmania IIDX cab? Anywhere from $3000 to $14,000 (ranging from oldest to newest). No, there's a reason why a luxury doubles IIDX ASC exists. Arcade cabs for rhythm games just ain't cheap.

crux has a point. When I was pricing out Maracas for Samba De Amigo I looked at a cab. Now it was only $700, but that was the price of 4 sets of Sega Maracas without shopping around...
