Retrocube idea: Cool or just too expensive?
Re: Retrocube idea: Cool or just too expensive?
Just mod an xbox, better, cheaper, and all around more useful. Although considerably uglier looking.
Re: Retrocube idea: Cool or just too expensive?
I went through a phase when I bought my own Gamecube, and after the purple lunchboxedness of my brother's Gamecube I vowed to make mine as badass as I could.
So I got an original black model with the special video output that they stopped including later on, I got the matching black GBA player and love it, and then i tricked it out with two wavebirds and two matching memory cards, the largest official ones you can get. And its a pretty good looking console.
And I'd love to pick up those converters. I saw a new Hori SNES controller made especially for use with the GBA Player, and ive been kicking myself for not picking it up. You should look into those as well.

I think it is an awesome idea, and you should go for it.
I am unfamiliar with console Emulators in general, so what is the deal with emelators on GC? How do you run them, where do you get them from? and so on...
GC I feel got a bad rap, it had very good graphics, some of the best exclusives ever and between the Zelda collection, Mega Man collection, and Sonic Collection, it has some of the best retro collections ever.
Then there is the hardware, IMO the hardware runs so much better then the PS2 and even X-Box, the PS2 makes a fair amount of noise, the original X-Box does as well, on the other hand the only other (disk based)system i can think of that runs as silent as the cube is the good ol' Sega Saturn.
I origianlly picked up the black GC that came packed with Metroid prime, with the intentions of buying the GB Player and never did, I still have my cube (in the closet, as i have a Wii set up on the TV) but once I have a retro game room set up, the cube will come out of retirement.
