What are you playing?
Re: What are you playing?
There is one 3D Sonic game I liked a lot...
And no I'm not joking.

Sonic 3D Blast is legit. Always have a good time with that one.
Its pretty relieving to hear others distaste for the Adventure games, I have tried many times to get into them (Since they are often considered the "good" 3D games), but always found them pretty terrible.
The Sonic Advanced games, though a mixed bag, are overall pretty fun. Those and Colors are the only ones I've found worth playing post-Genesis.

Was I the only one expecting werewolf Sonic when I opened that spoiler? Because I was hoping to have a laugh.

I've actually enjoyed that one quite a bit! Probably the Sonic game other than 2 that I've come the closest to beating.Xeogred wrote:There is one 3D Sonic game I liked a lot...

Gonna concur on the sonic 3d blast love. It really should be called Flicky 2 starring Sonic the Hedgehog! The Saturn version has a killer special stage featuring the first 3d model of sonic and crew!!PartridgeSenpai wrote:I've actually enjoyed that one quite a bit! I got frustrated with the first Sonic Adventure, but I did ultimately enjoy it. It was one of my first free-roaming 3D games. Aside from periodic camera issues, the Sonic levels were mostly well-designed. And the very first stage was very much intended to be eye candy, and it was.

Re: What are you playing?
I'm currently playing through Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX on Game Boy Color. I've never played this Zelda entry before. Dudes. Legend of Zelda on Game Boy has no business being this good! I had no idea! This game is amaze-balls! I'm really enjoying this one, and marveling at the amount of content they were able to squeeze into a humble Game Boy cart. Even the story is fairly compelling thus far and ... dare I say it ... more interesting than Link to the Past (what with its tired old 'kidnapped princess' routine). I also love how this game refuses to take itself so seriously. Especially by the standards of the Zelda series, it really embraces some moments of genuine humor. With a nudge and a wink to the player it's just like, "Fuck it, this ain't Tolkien, so let's not pretend it is. Just sit back and enjoy the unique experience that a video game can provide." And to that end, it really features some nice homages to other video games, particularly the Mario franchise insofar as it features several enemies from that series.
One other thing I want to say about Link's Awakening is how great (and hilariously OP) the boomerang is in this one. Seriously if the boomerang had a Master Sword equivalent, it would be the boomerang in this game. One boomerang to rule them all.

Link's Awakening is one of the best Zelda games out there, no lie. I also really like the Oracle games, and would say they're worth a try if you still feel a need for Zelda games in that style. They aren't quite the same in overall design philosophy, but the graphics are very similar, so I've always felt they were related to me
Fun fact: There were originally supposed to be THREE Oracle games on GBC instead of two!

Crystal Quest - another XBLA cheapie from the recent BC sale. This, of course, is a remake of the Macintosh classic (which is also included) which we all played during typing class in middle school. The remake adds a twin stick shooting piece also.
