How about this? Phantasy Star Online is a rip off of Diablo? How about, games have multiple elements that are similar to other games, but are not a direct response to them.Segata wrote:Destiny is a mediocre game and in many ways just a knockoff of Phantasy Star Online series. Skylanders is just garbage. Fun for kids because toys but they are not good games. It's sad that they are the reboot of Spyro.
Activision has been awful since PS2 era, they just got progressively worse.
Toys to Life style games are for a certain audience. How many of them have you played and for how long? Did you play solo or co-op?

At it's core they do have differences but many concepts are the same. Granted PSO isn't the most original game ever. While this picture is mostly in jest. There is many surface level elements. Knockoff might be too strong but it certainly takes a lot from it.BogusMeatFactory wrote:

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Let's break it down shall we? Three races to pick, a normal, a magical person and a tech person. Typical fare in science fiction games. Star wars even has that covered.
The classes... destiny hunters are stealth based so snipers or rogues. Phantasy Star Online hunters are melee characters. Phantasy Star Online doesn't have a stealth based character. Phantasy Star has the ranger which focuses on range based attacks... destiny's Titan class is a tank....so no comparison there.
Oh man in 2014 they each had four locations you could explore....totally was ripping off of them there.
Both had bosses that had a lot of hit points and took time to beat....oh man the comparisons are uncanny!
The guy who identifies your special gear is mysterious!!!! Like every game.
Having a soccer ball and having a built in soccer game is not remotely comparable.
They both have character creation?! Scandalous!
A subclass that changes how your character plays and an item that has a similar name is not ripping off. Blade dancing is a common rpg trope.
Flying robots in science fiction. One side has them be tied to narrative and another ties into gameplay. Not the same.
Colored loot. In destiny it notates rarity. Phantasy Star Online notates item type. It is a design decision to help people notice items in contrast to the environment... tons of games do this.
Chilling in social hubs is something every single person does in every single mmo.
Both games have special attacks?! Oh snap! One is based on how you feed your robot companion and the other is based on the class and skills you choose. Not the same.
Places being destroyed by an evil force...what video gsme am I describing? Almost every video game ever made.
Armor slots that can have upgrades. What video game am I talking about? Almost every video game ever made.

Those are some pretty surface level comparisons but I think that image was meant to be funny and not serious.

I said mostly in jest and said mainly surface level. I'm tired. I been out doing errands and on a heavy duty perscription pain killer. I am practically drunk.Gunstar Green wrote:Those are some pretty surface level comparisons but I think that image was meant to be funny and not serious.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
On the subject of Destiny, I've heard it plays a LOT like Halo. Being from Bungie, that didn't really come as a surprise, but to those who've played it, would you say that's an accurate comparison?
On Skylanders, I've heard it's a pretty fun game, to be honest. If I were a few years younger when they'd come out, I know I'd've been aaaall over those things. And while, yes, it was originally supposed to be a kind of Spyro reboot, it was much more of a situation of Activision using a property they had to boost the appeal of a new IP. Hence why Spyro's name got dropped from the title so quickly.

Well, for only playing Halo 1&2 for a decent amount, I would say no. The gunplay in Destiny is much more refined, IMO.
But, I've only played the campaign modes as well in Halo. No online multiplayer. Yet, I've logged over 1,000 hours in Destiny.

^ That image is the reason I bought Destiny.
Phantasy Star Online is phenomenal, so I welcome all imitators.

Hey, PSO is apparently very similar to Warframe.
Floating robots
Mysterious cloaked figures abound
Multiple areas to explore
Slots for skills as well as apparel
Three selectable warframes at the start
A "darkness" overtaking parts of the solar system via an infestation
Hubs
Colored loot for denoting ammo pickups
And there are even more comparisons!
Leveling
Experience systems
Special abilities
Equippable weapons
Enemies
Bosses which have gimmicks/are bullet sponges
In game chat
Sci-fi
Guns!
Swords!
Dancing while welding swords!
Colors!
Vendors
A user interface
Online connectivity
OMGZ Same game! Same game! It's all a conspiracy!
