I think DS2 added full directional rolling when locked on - 3 and Bloodborne definitely have it. So, clearly, someone felt more than four directions was warranted.

Usually if I've had inputs not register, it's a controller calibration (or something) that takes unsyncing/resyncing or something to resolve.
More typically, it's input buffering that can be a problem (or exploited, as the case may be).

I think DS1 particularly makes it harder to do the "just go grind" part though, due to not having as easy travel early on. I mean, it's also the most atmospheric due to it - the only game in the series that doesn't make you go back to a hub and talk to a waifu to level up for example. Backtracking in the first half of the game can be tedious though.

How would I troubleshoot that? My Xbox one controller is connected to my PC via a USB cable. Just unplug it and then plug it back in?

Disconnect and reconnect probably. Possibly restart the game. I was just saying that I've had times where a particular button or something literally would not do anything, or stick drift. It usually seemed more like the game was capturing the calibration at some point, and needed something to get reinitialized to reset it.

Meanwhile, the input buffering comment was more a known aspect of the series where commands get queued up during animations or before stamina regenerates, and can end up executing at the next possible time they can, which may not be what you want.

Far as I know though, it also tends to be what gets abused for duping or other shenanigans like swapping weapon move sets.

Hmmm. Well I should probably reset it then. I can't remember the last time I had it unplugged for any reason.

But I did know about animation lock and similar mechanics in the game.

There's a perspective you might be overlooking, here... As a father of a 7 month old, with a wife who also works, I just don't have time to master a game any longer. There may be some enjoyable aspects to a game like Dark Souls, graphics, story, sound design, music, that I could still appreciate within the limited time available to me (and let's be honest, right now I couldn't even make time for a Dark Souls with easy mode).

That's my problem in a nutshell going back to when I was in college with a gf then right after in the gaming industry for years, having a family just made things worse. I'm all for a challenge, but at the same time, I have to want to seek it, and have the time for it which is on the latter very rare anymore. I still struggle too much to enjoy the few 100 games I have left and it irks me. I don't need someone calling me a pussy because I won't play Dark Souls because it doesn't have an easy mode, a mini map to stop me from getting lost or the rest.

RPGs, I used to enjoy those more, now I more or less won't bother unless I have a visual guide book of the dungeons (or overly well explained type up of each) because I don't have the time to piss around with being lost for hours, worse if it kills me. I'm about the story, good game play, and not pissing my valuable remaining time for games. There's no harm in a game like Dark Souls or any other to have an easy mode, and often you'll find there are games where even the developer says that easy is normal, normal is hard, and so on (like God of War was done.)

It is any wonder also why I'm loving the Switch? HANDHELD play, makes it far easier to get the time to enjoy something more meaty. I doubt I could have done Zelda BOTW so easily only anchored to a TV set as it's just too damn big. I play handhelds and on my laptop more than consoles. I retired my PS4 to movie player for lack of games I can't get on the PC already which is easier for me to play there as it's portable.

These days I play on normal or easy depending on the game and my mood and my vague idea of time I can invest in it from the get go and I'm fine by that.

No one is mad lol. I gave a clear reason in my follow-up statement of why I don't like it and thinks it's a bargain bin title like all the other party games. Sounds more like you just didn't like my opinion and got triggered and blamed me for being mad. I dunno bro, I really don't care either way. If you like Wii sports, great. I was just stating what I thought was an unpopular opinion. Sorry if I offended you.

It makes it sound like you couldn't possibly comprehend how someone could enjoy it when clearly tons of people did.

Maybe that's why it's called "unpopular gaming opinions"... Instead of just attacking me and initiating a worthless argument, you could have gave constructive ways of why it isn't a terrible game. Just because lots of people played it and enjoyed it doesn't mean it's a good game. It was directed towards the lowest common denominator with its unrealistic physics and cartoonish graphics. At this point, you just seem like a sensitive child who can't handle opinions other than his own. I expressed myself just fine and gave reasons why. If you can't handle it perhaps this thread isn't for you.

Totally! Unless I'm really feeling in the mood for a really big game, I have a very hard time sitting down and dedicating all of that time to a game if I can't dip into it every once and a while when I have a free moment to just take it out of my pocket. That's why I thought it was a totally legit complaint when some people were upset that Persona 5 wasn't on Vita when P3 and P4 have had portable entries for so long (which so many were introduced to the series by).

They are pretty dang sexy. Makes the Wii U Gamepad look like the 32x or something.
