The Best of PC-9800 Music

I would love to hear your guys top pics for PC-98 music and OST's. Rhythm and Pixels newest podcast episode was dedicated to it and blew my face off. Naturally I've heard a lot of the Falcom stuff over the years, but I'm all for some refreshers. This sound chip is some of the best stuff to ever grace my ears. It sounds like the Japanese' answer to the Amiga (which had more Western composers I believe).

My favorite picks from the episode:

To Believe is a Power! – Only You Sekimatsu no Juliet-tachi – PC-98 – Shade

TH03 Touhou Yumejikuu ~ Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream - 9 - Mugen Yuugi ~ Dream War

Flame Zapper Kotsujin (PC-98) - E.N.K.A.

Revival Xanadu II: Remix (PC-98) - Level 7

Most of the NEC computers use the YM2203, or YM2608; So, yeah I'm a fan.

May as well mention some of the classics (you may notice that I'm not making much of a distinction between PC88 and PC98):

The Scheme

YU-NO

Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes

Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes II

Koshiro Yuzo produced his Genesis soundtracks on a PC88 (and probably a lot of other soundtracks, too). So, why not check out Revenge of Shinobi playing through a YM2608:

Rusty has a great OST:

Also it recently got an English translation:

But yeah, the PC88/PC98/MSX2/X68000 all have killer audio hardware.

Check out Aquales' X68000 OST:

PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Don't forget the FM Towns. It used a YM2612 (same as the Genesis) for 6 sine-only FM channels and paired it with a Ricoh RFc68, which gave it 8 PCM channels. Sega also used the Ricoh in some arcade boards. Oh, and the FM Towns also had CD red book.

Marble Madness, of all things. Actually, I don't know for sure that's a YM2612 one. I just heard it briefly the other day. Let me check.

No, I think it might be a CD title. Never mind.
