But there are different variants. R6 Siege plays a lot different than CoD. Battlefield games as well. Then a current popular game is PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds, which is a battle royale. So there is a lot of variation and creativity, just depends on what flavor you want. CoD doesnt stray too far from its formula, but that is what its fans want.
You have a few TPS mixed in there. Talking strictly FPS.

You should try it. You would be surprised how fps games are not all the same as stated previously. They may not be your genre but luckily there is quite the free market. I don't support the gentrification of genres.

As for player unknowns battlegrounds it is first/third person. Don't give me the semantics nonsense of how a tgird person shooter is somehow better than a first person shooter.

I am not a big fan of most modern FPS especially military shooters. Doom rocked my face off.

I was expecting an over the top, bobmbastic romp like Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

New Order isn't that - it's totally different in feel and tone. It's not bad by any means. It's just not the game I thought I was buying.
Best to compare it to Half-Life 2.

You can tell it has thick Starbreeze DNA as well. I believe a lot of their former staff are now at MachineGames and it shows (the Riddick games are amazing).
Half Life 2 is probably a good comparison point, actually.

You know, I never got around to playing any of the Riddick games - maybe I should give them a shot. I think they are on GOG these days.
Have: Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 800XL, PC, N3DS XL, Wii U, GBA, Xbox One, Switch

Just know that they're a bit more melee/stealth focused, almost like a sci-fi Thief or something.

I keep trying them and I don't know why. I just can never get into the Tales series. They always feel and look meh to me. Visually bland. Bland gameplay. Blandity bland bland. Music can be great in some of them. I don't know why I keep trying them when I come to the same conclusion every time.

I mean, I mostly like them for the writing. That's the reason I play RPGs (and usually any game) is because the narrative is well put together and/or the characters are very well constructed. I can't really identify with your plight if you play 40+ hour games just for pretty graphics and very dynamic gameplay. If that's the case then I'd say that RPG's just aren't your genre.
I identify everyone via avatar, so if you change your avatar, I genuinely might completely forget who you are. -- Me

um what? Pretty graphics are not why I play a game. They can be a nice bonus. They are the least determine factor tho for me. Thing is every Take sgame I have played it just every JRPG cliche wrapped in one so I can never finish them. I only played a few however. TOS,TOS 2..still have one of them on PS2 and played the demo of the most recent one. They just feel very stiff with a boring world. Bland characters. Bland art direction. A not very interesting combat system. Tho the demo on the latest one was better.
