Games That Defined the Xbox - NEW GUIDE!

Post by racketboy »

UPDATE: The final guide is now live http://www.racketboy.com/retro/microsof ... osoft-xbox

It doesn't seem that long ago that the Xbox was scoffed at being included here. It's about time we start discussing titles should be included in the roundup.

Feel free to list titles and if you want to write a blurb for your favorites, please feel free.

Edit: So I'm going to post this Google Sheet here as a tally and my general rank.
You can see we're at 20+ already and you can see which ones might not make the cut if we add more

Added a handful to the bottom section that may be more Hidden Gems than Defining

My XBox knowledge is admittedly worse than other consoles, but I remember the Dead or Alive games being quite a big deal on the system. They were real graphical showcases.

I'm not sure how easy it'd be to narrow down, but 'Sega games' in general were a big part of the XBox line up. Sega really threw their support behind the system and I remember magazines getting excited by some of the games. No idea how well they sold though.

Splinter Cell
Knights of the Old Republic
Voodoo Vince
Jade Empire

These are a few I could think of off the top of my head.

I agree with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Everyone I knew who had an XBox had this RPG.

How about Project Gotham Racing too? As far as I saw it was the most popular racer for the system.

Max Payne was another one. I think it's on PS2 as well, but I remember the XBox version being the big deal.

How about Fable and Morrowind as well? Were they popular enough to count?

Fable, Crimson Skies, and PGR, good grabs.

Max Payne and Morrowind might be good to put into a "Solid PC ports" entry in the list. Both games had come out first on PC well before the console releases but were still quite beloved. Fable is definitely a good call.
