Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Speaking of JRPGs, can someone explain something to me?
From my perspective, it seems as though JRPGs in the 16-bit era (and before) had pretty coherent stories and plots, albeit a bit basic at times.
But from the 32/64-bit generation up to today, the storylines seem to have become increasingly convoluted and nonsensical.
Am I the only one who thinks that? If my observation has some basis in reality, why did that happen?
To quote one of the greatest SNL skits of all time, "What's up with that?"

I think its a similar reason as to why the mechanics have also gotten more complex. They are no longer trying to draw in a new audience, but simply please their current one, and to do so they have to go bigger every time, since their audience likely has already experienced simple stories and light-mechanic gamesmarlowe221 wrote: Am I the only one who thinks that? I could be wrong though, RPGs are not my forte.
Apparently all the ps1 FF games are good! I agree with this

FF6 is the best FF on the PS1, but the load times really make you want to switch to other versions.

The increased storage space of disc media, coupled with the ability to display long CG cutscenes, allowed amateur hour writers to evolve from penning short bad plots, into penning long horrendous plots.marlowe221 wrote:But from the 32/64-bit generation up to today, the storylines seem to have become increasingly convoluted and nonsensical
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I like the game and all esp with Robin Williams in it. Junction system and the story sucks. Squall is awful.

I couldn't get into Vagrant Story. Plot was nonsense and I'm not a fan of timing-based RPG combat.
