Gamepad on PC Halp.. not sure what the name of the problem..

Post by SuperDerpBro »

..i'm having is.. I call it "over aim."

A little history.. I have been gaming on consoles since the NES. About a year ago i started to try PC gaming. I bought a cheap card to mess around with. Beat a few games (Witcher 3 Fallout 4) and enjoyed it. About 6 months ago i built a "decent" rig (i5 1060). I don't play multi player games. I don't play online. I don't play many FPS games (Just beat Bioshock Infinite but i generally don't like them). I mostly enjoy 3rd person stuff and platformers. I highly doubt i will ever be comfortable playing any type of game with a keyboard/mouse. My most recent try (of many) was with Mankind Divided.. I beat the game 3 times with an XBOX 360 pad. Then, for fun, i decided to try with a keyboard. The amount of finger gymnastics need to do simple actions (Actions you need to do a lot of) was super dumb hehe..

Anyways, the main problem i have is with aiming. I often find that when i try to aim in some games (Currently it is making Mass Effect Andromeda almost un-playable) when i try to aim the cross hair always goes to far off target. Then i try to get back on target and it goes to far the other way. I have tried lowering the sensitivity but then its just to slow. I bought some Kontrol Freeks (And Thumstax) and they do help a little but it is still pretty annoying. Here's a super awesome pic i made attempting to explain what i'm talking about

I don't remember ever having this problem (or at least to this extent) on all my years playing consoles. Is there anything i can do to fix this. Or should i just buy a PS4 (I have yet to buy a console the gen) and descend to the realm of mortals.

EDIT: I mostly remember major offenders being both the new tomb raider reboots and now ME: A. Maybe its just the games.

Might try toggling Aim Assist off (I think it's on by default). That can pull the reticle towards center of mass.

If you're using a 360 pad in Windows, you could try calibrating it:

PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I swear not trying to be Master race jerk here, but I got way better at those Tomb Raider games when I switched to mouse and keyboard. I know that doesn't really fix your issue though. I find aiming much harder w controller as well though.

I just went though my steam list to try and remeber. Every game on it was fine IIRC other than both tomb raiders (only in super heavy combat), kinda sorta Bioshock Infinity, and now ME: A. I guess its just down to the game.

I dont think i could ever get used to KB/mouse. Took me a while to even get used to 60FPS. I HATED it at first. I capped games at 30 for a while becasue it bugged me so much lol

I used to think I could not kb/m and now I'm totally opposite. But that's not helping you.

Is it possible that there's slowdown it something throwing you off? Video settings or something? I'm reaching.

I wonder if there's some sort of aim/cursor buffering? I know with mouse controls some games do mouse buffering or mouse smoothing, and that makes mouse movements more smooth and less accurate, which is dumb. I wonder if this is something that can happen to gamepads, too.

Who knows. Pretty much confirmed its the same on Consoles. SO glad i didn't pre order the game like i was going to. Was super excited for it. Mass effect 1 2 3 were some of my favorite games ever. This game.. pretty much everything about it is a let down. Not even getting into the SJW Effect: Pandromeda shit. Good thing i "borrowed" it before (not) buying. :(

I almost think Disney paid Bioware to kill the franchise. So it didn't take money from Star Wars haha. I know quite a few people who were die hard Mass Effect fans that ended up not buying this. I imagine there are quite a few more out there.
