Not with that D-pad it wasn't. So you realize how shit that thing is playing Shmups? You have to use the analog stick...seriously WTF. You don't use analog for a shmup. Too easy to overshoot.

Balderdash. You use the D-Pad when playing shmups. One of the best western shmup players, who has counterstopped Futari Ultra, used the default 360 d-pad. Its fine.

Funny you bring up shmups and thinking the xbox consoles have no good exclusives in the same debate, considering the 360 has a mass of exclusive (not counting arcades) shooters, and probably the most important shooter library, since most of these can't easily or accurately be emulated.

Xbox's also got the best two Ninja Gaiden games. And those are just some of the exclusives that my weird ass cares about.

Not everyone has a PC, many people prefer consoles for their ease of use and connectivity to a TV. Obviously this is an opinion thread, but just because you don't like Forza or Halo or Halo Wars or Gears of War, doesn't mean they aren't system sellers, they are and will continue to be so. Also remember that just because they don't sell in Japan, doesn't mean they have to step out of the game, the Xbox division is a very profitable division of Microsoft.

I gave them a HDD. Achievements are negative thing not a positive. I never said I dislike Forza. I like Forza but it's no system seller. They are yearly games. It's not like Mario Kart. 1 game per console cycle to make it truly compelling. Mario Kart Wii alone porbably sold more than every Forza game on XBO. Halo Wars as in HALO WARS had a stealth release and didn't sell that great. Halo main series not the seller it used to be. Splatoon outsold Halo 5. I had chat and parties with online services before XBL. Goldeneye showed how FPS on consoles can work. Every Dreamcast sold had a modem with it. So again was there already.

Achievements are positive as they have not made game design more lazy, instead there have been innumerable instances of it urging players to find Easter eggs and hidden areas.

Forza isn't Mario kart and isn't even trying to be Mario kart so why make that comparison. Goldeneye was a great game, sure but it's control scheme is not used to this day nor did it have features that have been carried on in future fps games.

Sales figures mean nothing outside of saying the game was not a financial homerun. It means nothing of their gameplay, community and overall impact on the market.

To me, it's not even so much about individual successes or failures though. What it comes down to is that MS has provided competition for Sony. The PS4 is great, sure, but it's great because of Microsoft. MS has also changed to compete with Sony. Either one left to themselves would be complacent. Even if you never own MS hardware, you benefit from their participation in the market. I wouldn't want them to bow out without a suitable successor to keep the pressure on Sony, and there basically isn't one out there right now.

Xbox One controller is the best controller. Check the dpad. Shmup it up.

I'm almost ashamed to say I own 5 Xbox One controllers between my console, PC and tablet.

Oh yeah, the Xbox One controller is definitely better than the 360 controller. But I have always seen the One controller as natural refinement of the 360 model.

As for the d-pad it's a big improvement but there are some durability issues with it in some instances. Mine has the "must push multiple times to record an input" issue that, I understand, comes from some part in the controller breaking down.

It is exactly because most pc gamers use windows. Xinput is native in the OS.

Sure, but there are other options and have been for quite a while now, including Sony and Logitech controllers. It's not like Xinput is some kind of Nvidia-level skunkworks secret sauce that no can do except Microsoft.

marlowe: Totally agree that the One controller is just a perfected version of the 360. I loved the 360 controller for years. Until the One controller got PC drivers really haha.
