What was the last movie you've seen?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Beyond the Gates.

It's a film released last year made to feel like 80s film but takes place in modern times. Story revolves around 2 brothers father vanishes and start clearing out his old video store. They eventually find a old VHS board game and it becomes a horror version of Jumanji. Cool film,a slow burner tho.

Nope. Is that the one with Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner?
Yes, and it's fantastic if you like the harder sci fi stuff.
Sci fi all day. I'll pick this one up next trip to the store. Is it similar in tone to The Martian?

I haven't seen The Martian yet, but Arrival is amazing. My Amy Adams obsession aside.

In terms of using science to solve a problem then yes. It doesn't really have humor in the same way The Martian does; people crack a joke now and then but for the most part they're all overwhelmed by the momentousness of first contact, whereas The Martian was using a lot of it as a coping mechanism for the marooning and the various setbacks. But in terms of presenting the nature of the problem and being willing to break it down into the little pieces it's very similar, though here it's a linguistics problem rather than life support.

This sounds good. Does it present the problem and solution in a realistic manner a la the Martian?

Noise you should definitely watch it, I think you'll really like it.

It looks good.

Dude watch Arrival. If you love sci-fi or don't, it's still great.

I'm gonna watch it. Like I said I'll pick it up this weekend when I get out to the store again. I'm looking forward to it.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy on FX again this weekend. I still tear up a little when Drax scritches Rocket's head at the end when Rocket is mourning Groot's sacrifice.
