I guess you're not familiar with satire then?

Baby steps. Most people cant be bothered enough to do something like that everyday.vash23n wrote:dont get me wrong... i love the planet and hate the things we are doing to it... i just dont see how 1 hour is going to help in the long run... i know it saves a lot of energy during that hour, but then its just back to normal for everyone... yet they feel good about themselves because they turned their lights off for an hour. once this hour is over and everyone goes back to normal, it doesnt matter how much energy was saved... now if we did it every day!! that would be something... i wonder how many of these weekend energy saving warriors would still stick with the cause... im not trying to insult anyone... i admire everyone who is taking part, but its not meant to save us from feeling guilty, its meant to inspire us to do more every day... or at least more than once a year.

i agree. i think we have made great strides in this country and around the world... with the reduction of CFCs in the atmosphere, for instance. we have worked hard to solve more than one manmade disaster, we can do it again.NathanBarnatt wrote:Baby steps. Even though I think everyone should stop driving cars and ride bicycles all together.

For anyone that participated I've got some Carbon Credits you can buy. I'll take NES games in a trade also...
Re: So is anybody gona do the earth hour thing...
those before and after pictures were pretty remarkable. I mean, the las vegas one really goes to show why this is so important. The light that those places are putting out requires some serious power and puts out a tremendous amount of heat and light pollution...
I'm not the world's best about conservation, but I'm definitely down with compound flourescent lights and shutting off stuff when not using it. Ghost power is also interesting. How many of you guys leave a ton of stuff plugged in all the time?

Yeah, cause that 1 hour a year out of the other 8765 hours really makes a difference. This is just a way for those that live a hypocritical life to feel good about themselves by saying they did something that really doesn't mean jack shit. It's simply all PR, it's just like the carbon credit thing. Al Gore can use more energy than I do, even though I have way too many videogame systems, but it's OK cause he buys carbon credits to off-set him flying all-over the place and his giant house that sucks more energy in one month alone than mine does or yours does in a whole year. Like I said before, anyone that participated in this, I'll trade you some Carbon Credits for you NES carts.

So how many of you fellows unplugged your refrigerators, electric water heaters, and air-conditioning units? I'm not knocking you guys, though admittedly I'm not interested in your cause, but I am wondering if you took the time to consider these things.
As for myself, I keep those energy efficient light bulbs, though not because I like the thought of conserving energy. They lower the power bill, which is pretty nice, but they also last a while, and they look pretty cool. It's just more convenience than anything else to me. I ain't into this hippie crap.
And get off my lawn! Crazy hooligans...
