Thanks. MMA is cheap on ps2 also ($10) - I thought the GameCube version (also cheap - $20) used to be much more .

If I had to choose one I would say Anniversary Collection is more definitive.

The emulation is good enough and you get all of the main games in the series before 9 and 10 plus the arcade games which aren't great but as far as I know it's the only port of these that exists.

However if you really don't care about Mega Man 7 or 8 then it doesn't matter and I'd say get the Legacy Collection just for the sake of it being in HD. That's not what the question was though and like I said, I think MMAC is the more definitive collection.

You already know my vote, definitely Legacy. I hope to see more arguments for the Anniversary collection here and not just voting numbers. The Anniversary collection is completely fine if you don't have a platform for the Legacy set, but otherwise as someone who played these games religiously growing up as a kid, the difference is clear. I will definitely opt for the Legacy collection whenever I go for replays now. The fighting games on the Anniversary set are a quick look at best and nothing too great and the lack of 7-8 doesn't really bug me since those games are pretty weak compared to the NES line.

I think the argument in favor of the anniversary is clear. Not just the addition of extra games, but cleaning up the games for more modern hardware (i.e. less slowdown and sprite flicker), addition of new features (new button functions, easy mode, and remix tracks). Also calling the seventh and eighth games weak is rather subjective. In my eyes 8 is better than half the nes games.

I'll add that the Gamecube version has worse sound emulation along with its button mix-up. Really just avoid the Gamecube version all-together.

This has killed my soul for years.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I love the arcade games! The first one isn't so hot, but I've had a lot of fun with the 2nd one! Honestly I think that's the game on that collection I've played the most of (especially with friends)

Therefore Anniversary gets my vote, even though I've only played the Gamecube one of that :P . It's it something like the Gamecube and PS2 came out at the same time and each one has some different bonus feature, while the Xbox version came out a little later and has all of that bonus content and more? I dinnae remember. I could swear there's one that could be classified as the definitive version of Anniversary though.

Gotta go with Anniversary on this for me. I love that they put the Power Battle Arcades on it.

Of course, I'm also biased, as I don't even have Legacy.

Even the Gamecube version isn't so bad though, just find that thrustmaster t-wireless controller and remap it yourself (what I did). Or there is also a fix so you can patch the image and throw it on a hacked Wii (what I do now, in addition to using the PS2 port, although I'll never understand why it REQUIRES a dual shock 2 controller on PS2... why can't I use my ps1 gamepads?).
...just another lost soul...
