Btw, Guardians. Awesome. Go see it. It even got me right in the feels at the end, which I was not expecting.

Yeah I love both Alien and Aliens for obviously different reasons.
The initial Queen scene is legit terrifying though. It's fascinating that James Cameron came up with the design himself and got the nod from Giger.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol2.
The movie itself was great fun, equally good as the first.
I saw this with my inlaws for my mother inlaws birthday on Friday night. To explain the hilarity of this, my father inlaw is a farmer (though he does have a day job). He is a gifted welder and mechanic and is the reason we own a fire engine. He does not understand geek culture, other than Mystery Science Theater 3000. The movie starts and Kurt Russell is driving a 70s blue Ttop and he alittle louder than he should have said the model and year and "its the shittiest car in the line" a guy behind us gets offended and said "Hey man, I drive one." After the movie they stood outside of the theater for the better part of an hour talking about how to fix the guys car.
The movie itself was great fun, equally good as the first.

Picked up bluray for David Cronenberg's The Fly and Invasion of The Body Snatchers.
We watched The Fly last night. I thought I had seen this one before but I don't guess it was all the way through, most of the third act were scenes I didn't remember. That said, I loved it and so did my wife.
The blend of believable science fiction and body horror really gets my mind working. Like this could conceivably be a reality in the near future. I also enjoyed that they didn't spend too much time explaining the science of his experiments, kept the pace up.
The practical effects were fantastic and reminded me of The Thing, one of my favorite horror movies. We will be watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers tonight.

The Fly is probably Cronenberg's best with the character drama. Goldblum is really likeable and it's disturbing to watch him slip into madness. Outright disgusting movie in a lot of areas, but it's amazing stuff for sure.
Have you seen Scanners and Videodrome? Or other Cronenberg stuff? I finally got around to them last year and was impressed with these three the most. And yeah the practical effects are amazing in these, a step up from the norm. eXistenZ was really flawed but the final act made up for it. Naked Lunch I wasn't feeling much, but it was so bizarre I'll probably never forget about it.

Well I have not seen any of those, and after pulling him up on imdb, the only other one of his I've seen is A History of Violence. Pretty much anything Cronenberg has done is worth watching once, even if you end up not liking it. He's spectacular, and even his films I didn't like as much, I can still acknowledge his skill.
