Nintendo Component Cables
Re: Nintendo Component Cables
Well this is a really old thread, but I didn't want to create a new thread for one question.
I bought official Nintendo Wii component cables (used off Ebay
) about a month or 2 ago. From the very second I started playing Mario Galaxy with them I have been completely disappointed/unimpressed?
The colors are brighter sure, but the lines on every object in the game appears to be rough or jagged or whatever word you want to use here. None of the lines are smooth at all.
I know the Wii isn't an HD console, but this is extremely noticable. And when everything on the screen is moving, it just looks really bad. I feel like my cables have to be messed up or something. But that doesn't seem logical.
Thoughts anyone? Is that just the way the graphics look?

Re: Nintendo Component Cables
The Wii should look crisp with component cables. Maybe bad connection?
Do you have an LCD with Dot Crawl? Is your Wii setup to widescreen? TV not in Zoom mode?

I wrote all kinds of video info belo at my CRT VS LCD signature link.

Re: Nintendo Component Cables
Ok well crisp is definitely not the picture I am getting. It is anything but crisp.
I've checked the connection multiple times and I've changed to different inputs as well.
I do have an LCD. I've never seen anything in my menu about Dot Crawl. It has something called Digital Processing with options of Standard or Pixel Plus? Don't know what that is. It has been set on Pixel Plus since I've had it.
The Wii is set to Widescreen as is my TV.

Re: Nintendo Component Cables
Seems like everything is right. Also be sure Wii resolution is set to 480p.
Make and model of your LCD? Did you read my post concerning LCDs?

Re: Nintendo Component Cables
Sorry I didn't say this last time, but thanks for the help!
I have read your CRT vs. LCD article a few times now. Very great stuff! Is there a part in particular I should read over?
The Wii is set to 480P.
My LCD is a 32" Philips Model # 32PF7421D/37.
I should note I have a PS3 hooked up via HDMI and a PS2 via Component and both look great.

However you mentioned you were happy with the PS2 component. Maybe test your Wii setup on a friend's HD just to confirm.CRTGAMER wrote:Vizio LCD VW32L HDTV40a is a widescreen like just about all LCD's. When running older PS2 with component cables at 480p the LCD tends to show pixels kinda like dots shown on a blown up comic book pic. The Dot Crawl is worse when you fill 4:3 image to widescreen.
www.practical-home-theater-guide.com wrote:In contrast to LCD displays, plasma televisions and CRT TVs have a virtually instantaneous response time.
This is mainly limited by the speed of their video processing engine rather than by the time it takes to fire the display phosphor; this is in the order of nano-seconds as against the milliseconds required for the liquid crystals to change state in LCD panels. In this respect, LCD panels still have a long way to go.
Yet, there is a further technical difference between the two technologies that renders plasma superior when it comes to pixel response time. Control of pixel intensity in a plasma display does not rely on the same drive process used in an LCD panel. In an LCD display, a minor adjustment in pixel intensity level is brought about by altering the drive signal in very small steps to adjust the twisting action of the liquid crystals, and which in turn controls the amount of light reaching the surface.
