Crystalis was actually popular during its day, and it even got a Game Boy Color port due to continued popularity. People still talk about Crystalis regularly on classic gaming boards, and always praise the game.

Meanwhile Clockwork Knight was only marginally popular with Saturn owners alone, never got any ports, and only grows more obscure every passing year. That's not to say it's a bad game, but a bonafide classic? I don't think so.

If you want to play Star Control 2 on 3DO go right ahead. I just don't care for the 3DO personally. I'd much rather play the game on PC.
I just play the games on the system I own them for.

I can see the dispute with Clockwork Knight, but how about Vib Ribbon? That's a game with several sequels, had a lot of attention lately, and got a digital rerelease far more recently than Crystalis was last seen.

The 3DO version is actually better, and much of the content was effectively back-ported onto PC via The Ur-Quan Masters. That's absolutely a legitimate platform to play on.

I suppose if I want people to respect my requests to change up their lists, I should do the same. Here's Rev. 2 of mine, taking off stuff that I think was harder to defend as "classic".

Parasite Eve II (PS1)
Beyond Oasis (GEN)
Eye of the Beholder II (PC)
Dungeon Keeper (PC)
Star Trek: 25th Anniversary (PC)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl (PC)
Another World (remaster - Vita)
Ratchet & Clank (remaster - Vita)
Star Wars Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight (PC)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (remaster - Wii U)

Not sure there's 3 "challenging" games in there for the July Jabberwocky Challenge, though.

Jedi Knight gets pretty tough. Either I suck (possible!) or it's just kinda frustrating at times, leading to some save-scumming.

STALKER is hardest at the beginning until you get better gear. Though it's still generally challenging up through to the end compared to most shooters, you have to be on your toes a bit.

I find Jedi Knight to be pretty easy but some of the bosses are downright terrible and a lot of luck. My Steam list says it only took me 5 hours to beat which seems crazy, but I did grow up playing the heck out of it back in the day.

Yep, lightsaber stuff is awful and not fun.

Yup, they definitely made it cool and work in Jedi Outcast... but beyond that I still think I like Jedi Knight more. Especially for its time, it's a bit of a weird FPS compared to the more linear and straightforward Half-Life or something. The level design can get really weird in Jedi Knight, but that's what I love about it.

I don't think Vib Ribbon is a classic in the west. Now, in the east, it may be considered a verifiable classic however.

I think all of those are challenging enough to be worthy of consideration. Especially if you play them without a strategy guide or walkthrough. I don't know what differences the remastered version of Another World makes, but the original game was absolutely challenging to figure out on your own.

Jedi Knight is fine when played as a straight FPS. It's the boss fights that ruin it, particularly the annoying final battle.

As for S.T.A.L.K.E.R., it depends on how much you patch it. The game was released in an unfinished state, so some of the patches make big changes that do influence the difficulty. I never found it too hard, though I also knife fight snorks, so I'm probably insane.

FTFY

I beat S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 1 in 2008. So I used whatever the most recent official patch was at that time. I never messed with any of the community mods until after I beat it. Personally I didn't think any of the mods actually made the game better than its vanilla self.
