I'm sorry, what? I'm having trouble hearing you through my thick rimmed glasses, and over the sound of the infusing process of the hops I use to make my homemade craft beers; absorbing the lingering aromas from your mother's discarded hosiery.

dsheinem wrote:Goemon whatever games = Goefuckyerself with this esoteric hipster BS. No one knows about the Mystical Ninja games and those who do know that they aren't that good really. Classics they are not, "cult" classics perhaps - AT BEST!
Are you for real about this, or--? It's one of Konami's flagship series. The character is based on a legendary bandit who's also had kabuki theater written about him. He's also a fucking ninja(!)--or he might have been, at least before he would have been kicked out of the Iga clan. Even toddlers in Japan have heard of him! You sound like someone who doesn't even know the difference between the Joumon, and the Yayoi periods! Fuckin' hell, I can't work like this! I'm out!

My final list--
1. Umihara Kawase
2. Umihara Kawase Shun
3. Umihara Kawase Shun - Second Edition
4. Umihara Kawase Portable
5. Umihara Kawase Shun - Second Edition - Kanzenban
6. Umihara Kawase (in Umihara Kawase Shun - Second Edition - Kanzenban)
7. Dasshutsu Puzzle Umihara Kawase
8. Sayonara Umihara Kawase
9. Sayonara Umihara Kawase Chirari
10. Umihara Kawase (in Sayonara Umihara Kawase Chirari)
All better.

I had no idea they had to be "classic". I just chose 10 games that I wanted to play and beat.

.....I don't think I have 10 "classic" unfinished games. I think I have played those already.
Several of the games i picked weren't really meant to be taken as classics either. From my NES list Final Fantasy, Chip And Dale and Ducktales are legit classics but Little Nemo and Darkwing Duck were there to have just some easy NES games to play.

Dark Cloud might turn out to be crap but to some it's cult classic. If the sequel is on sale during the challenge i might consider changing it.

Wild Arms 3 isn't really certified classic but it could be good or it could be b-tier.

Like dsheinem and Ex said the Rebelstar isn't really classic either. More of a hidden gem sort of deal. I do own X-com on gog (same creator) and i was thinking about trying to cut my PC backlog down so i change Rebelstar for it.

Because i'm also taking the hard game challenge and will be trying out NES games via it i think i can change Little Nemo and Darkwing duck to classic PC games too.

So this is the new list

1. Final Fantasy
2. Ducktales
3. Chip And Dale
4. Dark Cloud (might change)
5. Wild Arms 3
6.Golden Sun
7.Metroid Zero Missions
8.X-Com
9.The Dig
10.Deus Ex (original)

Damn pierrot even going for the Umihara Kawase avatar now.

I dunno when I'm going to start. Maybe summer proper, so late June? I could still find some scattered snow piles here as of yesterday morning, it's barely spring!

Probably shoulda picked some easier games.

For all of you who think I am joking about my critique, I am in fact not at all joking. My language may have been a bit hyperbolic, but those picks are genuinely bad picks and not really appropriate fodder for what this annual challenge is/was meant to be. I am laughing, sure....but I am also not laughing. Fix yer shit.

----

In any case, I don't know that I have my own 10 games nailed down yet...but here are ten that I am considering as of right now.

*= potential Jabberwocky July option...

Parasite Eve II (PS1)
King's Field (PS1)*
Beyond Oasis (GEN)
Eye of the Beholder II (PC)*
Dungeon Keeper (PC)
Star Trek: 25th Anniversary (PC)
Another World (remaster - Vita)
Ratchet & Clank (remaster - Vita)
God Hand (PS2)*
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (remaster - Wii U)

...
Parasite Eve II (PS1) Cult classic
King's Field (PS1)* Cult classic
Beyond Oasis (GEN) Cult classic
Eye of the Beholder II (PC)*
Dungeon Keeper (PC)
Star Trek: 25th Anniversary (PC)
Another World (remaster - Vita)
Ratchet & Clank (remaster - Vita) A good game, but is it really a classic?
God Hand (PS2)* Not a classic: mediocre reviews on release
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (remaster - Wii U)
Only 5 classics on your list, buddy. You're going to have to do better when you submit your next draft.

Hey Dave, I recall you beat Eye of the Beholder a few years back. Do you still have your save for it? You can port over your party between the Beholder games. I highly recommend that you do, as the first dungeon has a few infamously brutal sections.

Hmm, I think there's pretty good arguments to be had for all of those.

*Parasite Eve II sold millions of copies, has been re-released several times, and is typically seen as one of the last games Square put out during its golden age. It seems, to me, that there can be little question as to its classic status.
*Beyond Oasis has been re-released by Sega in several formats and is typically regarded as the best ARPG on the platform. I can see it as a middling pick, but I feel like it is pretty well known even amongst non-retro game enthusiasts.
*King's Field (II) was the first US release of a long running franchise that is regularly invoked when people discuss the more recent (and vastly more popular) From software games. I will concede it is a "cult classic" but I don't care since it is probably the only one on my list.
*Ratchet and Clank is old enough, influential enough, and beloved enough to count as a classic. I mean...there was a R&C film in theaters last year FFS.
*God Hand was widely nominated for awards when it released and has been included on many "best games ever" or "best games on PS2" since. I know it was/is a bit divisive, but I think this really speaks to how well known it is as a "classic" from the PS2 library.

I played it on the Sega CD, so I assume I am shit out of luck.

You're much more forgiving assigning "classic" status to your own picks. I stand by my assessment. Re-submit!
