Didn't see you mention that haha. I played a bit of of some of them way back in the day. I feel like they would be a recipe for barf nowadays. I think I own some collection on GOG.

Keep that vertical axis fixed. Thank Doom! 8)

I think the first two Descent games have aged magnificently. They're not for everyone, though. They might make you motion sick or something. I never had any problems with it, though.

I mean, c'mon, it's basically DOOM in a spaceship! What's not to like?! ;)

Well... if you say so. I am a huge sucker for that gritty low res Quake 1, Jedi Knight, Thief 1, etc look. I haven't touched a Descent in probably 20 some years. Do they have good source ports to smooth out that resolution? And that lets you customize the controls well enough. That's all I'd need!

Yeah, look into D1X- and D2X-Rebirth. Those port the game into OpenGL. There's also D2X-XL, which apparently changes even more, but I haven't messed with it.

I'm going to try this year but only with three games.

The Legend of Zelda
Chrono Trigger
Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)

Owned these all for too long, and while they've all had some time put into them, they need beating and they are all definitely classics. That and it's kind of embarrassing I've beaten shite like Rogue Warrior and Game Dev Story but never Zelda and CT.

I thought Landstalker was a bit too long, and drawn out, with controls that are not at all ideal for the precision platforming involved. The music can be pretty good, though.
BogusMeatFactory wrote:Markies I 100% endorse your decision to play landstalker. It is one of my all time favorite genesis games!
When looking up other's opinions on Landstalker, I either get one or the other. It is a game that is beloved by some and reviled by others.

I am going in with an open mind despite what I have heard about the platforming. I want to play it as well mostly because of others in the series such as Time Stalkers and Alundra as well.

I hope to play it after Final Fantasy V as I would want something with a bit more action and not as long.

Looks incredible.

Thank you for joking about Descent, Ack. Now I need to play them again.

Hey, you're welcome!

And they're not so bad. I beat the first Descent for a summer challenge a couple of years ago, and I had no problems once I had the control scheme down. It's worth looking into.

This shows up all the time in "best of..." lists for the Saturn, on Japanese websites. I've always been curious about it considering how highly regarded it is. Is this on Steam, or something?
Nope, it's not on Steam. Not yet anyway. It does have an English patch though which seems to be well done.

It's a really neat patch since it combines the original PC release with the Saturn version. So it has the 18+ scenes from PC and also the character voices from the Saturn. It probably has some other tweaks, but those were the two main things that I can remember off the top of my head.

Alright, gonna remove Conker in favor of Eternal Darkness.

Any thoughts from folks on Monster World IV and Super Adventure Island?
