The Retron5 can dump a game save to it's internal hardware. Theoretically it can rewrite one to cartridge too although I've never tried doing so.. Dumping the game save shouldn't harm the cartridge or saves at all, but you might want to perform the save restore on a different cartridge to ensure you don't corrupt the game file on the original.
