Unpopular gaming opinion: I don't like arcade fighting sticks. I don't find them comfortable or better than a gamepad.
I can't say I don't like them, because I think they're just too sexy for me not to like, especially Sega's Virtua stick and the Astro/Blast city layouts.

I can say I'm no good with them and after playing with a pad for so long, it feels really unnatural. Maybe if I practiced more with one, it'd feel better.

I don't know if it's really an unpopular opinion these days, but I consider the PS2 completely skippable. I have a couple I use as pure PS1 machines, but Between the Xbox and Gamecube having the better multiplatform releases on average, and remasters for most of the biggest franchises, I don't see any compelling reasons to dive into the library. Maybe the Street Fighter Anthologies? I'm sure there are hidden gems and games that use cool peripherals, but I think of all the consoles, the PS2 is the one I can most comfortably overlook.

If you care about JRPGs and quirky Japanese games in general, the PS2 is essential as it has many exclusives in those genres. However, if you don't care about those genres, then yeah, the PS2 might not be so critical.

If you're a fan of survival horror, the PS2 has a ton of entries worth checking out. Yes, some of the biggest names have superior ports on other consoles, but the sheer number of horror titles in the PS2's library makes it worth owning for any fans.

The PS2 was a really crappy DVD player.

But I also know I'm spoiled, because I won a Pioneer DV-414 DVD player ($525 MSRP, available as low as $399 when the PS2 debuted) in a contest in 1999. The DV-414 is a legendary DVD player that held its own against $1000+ DVD players and was the first really high-quality DVD player that a typical household might be able to afford (and it continues to display better video quality than any DVD player I've owned since). I don't know how well that first generation of $200-250 DVD players performed about the time the PS2 was brand new, so maybe compared to them it was great, but compared to my DV-414 the PS2 was utter crap at DVDs. I remember a scene in Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust where there's some screen flashing and the PS2 just completely glitches out for a second.

Handhelds still suck. Playing GB games on my monitor with my Buffalo SNES controller is the real way to play these.

Yup that's definitely an unpopular gaming opinion. Handhelds do not suck unless you've got weird hands, you're missing a hand, or eye problems.

I am definitely a fan of survival horror! Could I trouble you for recommendations that can't be found elsewhere?

Sure. Haunting Ground, Kuon, Rule of Rose, Echo Night: Beyond, Clock Tower 3, and Extermination are all PS2 exclusive. Each one of these may not be without their flaws, but they're well worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre. If you're in the PAL region or willing to import, there is also Forbidden Siren 2.

If you prefer something a little less horror and more action-packed, Ghosthunter is also worth looking into. Same with the games Disaster Report and Raw Danger, which focus on survive a natural disaster as opposed to your standard monsters.

While the first two Fatal Frames also saw release on the Xbox, Fatal Frame III was released on PSN. I don't know if it's still accessible and can't vouch for it, so the PS2 might be your best option for it nowadays. Technically speaking, Siren is also available on PS3(as a pseudo-remake) and via the PS2 on PS4 library
