A year and a half removed from The Force Awakens fever, I'm finally rewatching it and man... now I really don't know if this is a good movie at all. It just feels like all fluff and has zero weight, typical of a lot of JJ Abrams I guess. I'm not even feeling like this stacks up compared to the prequels much now, at least Revenge of the Sith. Yeah, those are insanely flawed movies, but the world building is still there in spades and the overall plot behind the Emperor and his master plans is quite the feat. They still feel like Star Wars to me, but I'm not sure about The Force Awakens. The guy doing the Nazi speech is so over the top it felt cartoony, I still have trouble taking Snoke seriously, Kylo Ren's actor kind of sucked here like he was going to for another Hayden Christensen or something, etc...

I wanted to rewatch this before hitting up Rogue One, which I missed in theaters. I hear a lot of mixed things about that one. No idea what to expect!

I've heard pre-screen opinions on Episode 8 have been "it's very different" from some actors and staff. I'm ultra curious to see what the heck a Rian Johnson Star Wars movie will be like. It's a bit worrisome that even Mark Hamill seems a bit disappointed in the portrayal of Luke, or over something in Episode 8... he also had better ideas for Episode 7 than what JJ presented. Can't give actors too much power, but eh yeah.

I don't know fellas. I worry about Star Wars' future. I'm really bored of Marvel. It will be the dark world if I end up feeling bored about Star Wars. I don't care at all about Battlefront II.

The Force Awakens is an almost scene-for-scene remake of the first Star Wars(1977). Watch them both back to back. The two movies are so similar that they're practically the same movie.

Yeah I realized that when I saw it in theatres and I still enjoyed the movie. Upon a rewatch at home I began to see that it's A New Hope but without all the charm. Eh

Judge Dredd. I wanted to see if the movie is as bad as I remember. Yup it's pretty bad but I did like the film visually. It's a great LOOKING film. Sets to practical effects. Problem with the film.....everything else. I mean it can be enjoyable for a bad film but it is just bad. The 2012 Dredd is so damn good and a shame we won't get a sequel.

Yeah, that new Dredd was pretty cool.

Yeah...

On one hand, sure... It's been 30 years and JJ and Disney have kind of rebooted the franchise and brought in new fans. Maybe that justifies it being a rehash point for point, but on another hand... it just seems like a cheap cash in.

And for how hard they harped on bringing back some practical effects and limiting the CGI use, up close on my TV, it was shocking how bad most of the CGI looked. Specifically the tentacle monsters in the Falcon (freaking hate that part), and the old ancient alien bartender lady... when she was talking to Rey about things and it got emotional, it was all too easy to see Daisy Ridley was just looking back at a green screen and the eyes were lifeless. Even if there was a fill in actor for her to look at, there was an obvious disconnect at that moment.

Chewie has some good jokes.

Yep, Revenge of the Sith is way better. I'm going there.

Rogue One was solid.

Digging into some hilarious theories right now.

Snoke = Mace Windu and Finn is his son
Rey = Rey Palpatine

I had more issues with Rogue One than Force Awakens. I tried watching it again yesterday and turned it off. As someone who was a diehard Star Wars fan for the last 30 years (including EU), I am really questioning if the new movies are even for me. I mean I enjoyed Force Awakens the first time, but it had some really stupid parts. When Maz comes on the screen I go to the bathroom.

Rogue One is the film they should have played it safe on. The use of CGI characters hurts the original trilogy in continuity (specifically the droids in Rogue One are agile). The addition of the new ships and planetary defense also hurts instead of helps - If the Empire has a planetary shield that is proven to work, why dont they have one on Endor? Even watching the film as a standalone it has weird issues. Like the Imperial Pilot is unshaven and has his mind destroyed by the tentacle monster, only to make a full recovery shortly after. And the silly blind archer.

Continuity issues aside, my biggest problem with Rogue One is the beginning of the movie. It starts off showing you a scene of the empire, killing and kidnapping to get the job done, then you get a rebel who kills friendlies and enemies alike to get the job done. It's at that point you think youre gonna get an awesome movie about the moral gray area of the rebellions operation.....but nope. Instead you get cookie cutter star wars plot #8.

They even completely drop the fact that that man is a murderer in the name of the rebellion. Like at no other point in the movie does he do anything else like that. What was the point in that scene at all? It certainly wasn't for character growth because none of these characters got any.

Patriots Day
Great action suspense drama based on the Boston Marathon bombing that happened on April 2013. In watching the movie, I reflect of how much the world has changed. Back then the community would really pull together and support the police and first responders. Having watched a library checkout, I'm buying this as a piece of history of how society has changed in just four years. Extra footage with interviews of key people that lived thru the bombing.

Real-life figure from 'Patriots Day' says film gets details right

A gripping account of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings that killed three spectators and wounded more than 260 people, "Patriots Day" re-creates the horror of the attack and the all-consuming manhunt that followed. It's a movie filled with action and it's scrupulous in its effort to be authentic. Ultimately, it's about the enduring spirit of the survivors and the dedication the first responders and law enforcement officials charged with finding those responsible for the terror.

DesLauriers thinks "Patriots Day" is arriving at particularly good time to bring Americans together. "The best way to put it is that when the bombs went off, the first responders, the medical personnel, the EMTs, the police officers, the firefighters, nobody was asking whether the victims were Republican or Democrat. Nobody was asking anything about their background or ethnicity. All the first responders were doing was trying to do was save lives, and the law enforcement officers, all we were doing was trying to prevent more bombs from going off in Boston."

In the divisive, post-presidental election climate of 2017, the movie could remind us of what we have in common. "In this day and age, when we have a lot of polarization, particularly in the political landscape of our country, I think this is a movie that can really just focus on the strength and determination of the human spirit and the great human spirit characterized in the victims and what they went through and how they strove to overcome the tragedies that befell them that week," says DesLauriers.

"I think that's really the focus of the movie."
