Which model are you using? The 2000 is very good, although admittedly I've had to swap the LCD out.

Mine says "3001" at the end of the bar code thing on the bottom, so I assume it is a 3000 unit. Does the 2000 have any significant improvements other than a better screen? I've personally never had any complaints with this screen, although I never have with the DS screens either, so I'm guess I just don't know how to see these scan lines that I've seen y'all talkin' about.

I'm sure the extended battery life is awesome, but shelling out 60 buck for an old name-brand one just isn't that appealing . Has anyone had any success with any of the myriad of off-brand ones you can get online?

I have the component cables for the PSP and can honestly say I've never tried them. The idea sounded grand at the time, but plenty of other things to play.

I've kept tabs on PSN sales and grabbed cheap PSP game to play on the Vita as an alternative. I still mess up shutting down my PSP and end up putting it to sleep until the battery dies.

The odd thing with PSP component cables is that gameplay tends not to be full screen. Sony TVs have seemed to have zoom modes that work for it - the Playstation 3D Display's was actually labelled as PSP zoom, but my 55" Sony TV has a "game" zoom mode that serves to full screen PSP games.

Sometimes I do miss my PSP. It had a lot more going for it than the Vita ever did on the whole until it got pirated into oblivion and most third parties walked shortly after the implosion over MGS Peacewalker.

I have a PSP 2000. Never had a single issue. Only thing I need to do is replace the battery. Original to the unit so it's old. Plus I played it a hell of a lot.
Honestly known quite a few people with a PSP and this is the first time seeing someone have problems with one.

EDIT I looked into it a little. I never even heard of model 3001 but it seems the model that has the most issues. So I guess you got the latest build of PSP and the worst one. 2000 prob the best one.

Far as I know it's not an intentional thing to sell TVs, but rather that the component output does not incorporate a scaler. The native PSP game resolution is 480x272, which isn't a standard TV mode...so it just outputs it in the middle of the 720x480 frame it uses for UMD video and so on. XMB gets scaled in software.
PSN content that's made to output to a more standard TV resolution tends to output full screen, such as PSOne Classics, which it can even use 240p for.

Most any HDTV has some sort of zoom mode that you can use to compensate for it, Sony just happens to include one that's made for PSP games.

I'm with you there - very much prefer a Commander fight pad for fighting games instead of a stick.

There are aspects about the 3000's screen that are superior. I think it's got much better colors on it. It also has a little scanline effect that's not seen on the 2000, however.

The rest of the hardware on mine is still kicking, although I don't get nearly the time I used to on my battery. Of course, as long as I've been using it, it's no wonder! Only recently has the system really fallen into disuse. If I could move everything over to the Vita, I would... and actually, I may move a lot over to my PSTV now that I have it hacked up with Henkaku and ARK-2/Adrenaline. Plus, the latest version of Vitashell supports swapping the memory card to a generic flash drive, which I really need to get set up. More space? Yes, please.
