Assuming he didn't have a major hand in Tyranny, their writing will do just fine.

Emerald Dragon

Just defeated a skeleton dragon, liberated a town full of dead people, and now I'm preparing to raid an enemy fort.

I like how light and easy and breezy the game is. I've only lost one battle, which was at one of the town coliseums. What's funny is that losing one of these fights results in an actual Game Over, and a kick back to the title screen where you have to reload the last save. That's harsh brah. I had expected perhaps a "better luck next time" message and a loss of some cash.

Found an awesome grind spot, but this is one of those games where enemies in a given area stop appearing once a boss is defeated or some other plot-specific event occurs. Similar to The Legend of Heroes. Aw shucks.

You're playing the PCECD version right? How is it different than the SFC version?

You got that backwards playa. I clarified a few things here:
http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 8#p1093498

This is what MobyGames says about the Super Famicom port:
This version of Emerald Dragon differs in several significant aspects from the earlier releases. The most notable changes include:
World map: unlike the other versions, this release has a traditional "world map" with separate locations displayed as icons, rather than a continuous environment.
Side quests: the three major side quests in the game have been removed and replaced by a new location, a Ghost Town, which contains a different sub-quest.
Dungeon layout: the dungeons are noticeably shorter and less complex than in the other versions.
Additional items: the dungeons also contain many more treasure chests.
Inventory: the inventory in this version is "bottomless", i.e. the party can carry an unlimited amount of items, as opposed to the earlier releases.
New attacks: the protagonist Atrushan has a set of new powerful dragon attacks.
Character growth: the characters gain much more HP when leveling up than in all the other versions.
Cutscenes: all full-screen cutscenes have been either removed or replaced by those made with in-game engine.

Hmm, so they made the SFC version a lot easier and got rid of the cutscenes. Mixed feelings on that. At least the SFC version can be played in English.

The decrease in difficulty is like the drop between the Japanese Final Fantasy IV and American Final Fantasy II. I personally enjoy being tossed an easier game once in awhile.

The lack of cutscenes is mainly due to hardware. The SFC port does have conversations between characters that can be triggered at any time, which is pretty cool. There are nice character portraits during all dialogue sequences as well.

If I were playing the SFC version, after finishing it, I'd go on Youtube and watch all the PCE cutscenes. Best of both worlds?

"Easier" in terms of older JRPG's usually means "well paced" in my book, so I'm A-OK with that. Emerald Dragon will probably be the next SFC RPG I play now, given that I already got it ages ago on Bone's recommendation :P

Forgot to mention that the game almost kinda has a turn-based bump system.

You know how in many JRPGs the vast majority of battles can be won by just mashing A? Well here most battles can be won by just moving the d-pad around.

Tonight, I made some serious progress in Final Fantasy V!

I did the Fire Ship, Karnak Castle, Library of Ancients, Jachol, Crescent and I am about to head into the Desert. I am destroying bosses in one round and am not having any problems whatsoever. My Black Mage/Summoner combo has been lethal!

But, I made it to the third crystal and I EVENTUALLY got my 3rd Job. It took a little bit longer because I had to find a Black Chocobo first.

Yes, I now have a Black Mage, Summoner and Ranger! I must say that I am very happy to have a Ranger. From what I have heard is that they are utterly broken and can be used for great effect. I like that they attack from the back row and their multiple attacks in a row can be very lethal.

All I have left is the Earth Crystal and the final jobs: Samurai, Lancer, Dancer and Chemist. I would absolutely love 3/4 of them with the Dancer being the only iffy. However, if I get either Samurai, Lancer or Chemist, then I think that is an extremely formidable team.
