Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Yeah, 3D World was absolutely fantastic. I'm more of a Mario 3 guy myself, but SMW is definitely a great game. Strangely enough, it's Galaxy that rekindled my wonder for 3D platformers, but I can certainly understand the various gripes.

It's weird how 3D World doesn't get more love. I think some people might not realize it doesn't have to be played co-op or something and is entirely perfect and incredible playing solo. It blew me away but apparently people across the net don't seem to care for it that much.

It is a solid game, but I hate the mandatory collecting of star coins.
Super Mario World did the "secrets" thing best - hidden exits and optional levels, no collectathon nonsense.

Finding the coins was the fun part, and it was calibrated well enough that you rarely were short of what you needed to advance. I wasn't, anyway.
Just so y'all know, though, Crown-Crown might be one of the most evil levels in Mario history. Oof.

I prefer having the option to simply zoom through levels or hunt for tucked-away stuff. When only the latter option presents itself, the game's fun factor drops tremendously (in my unpopular(?) opinion). Now, the new Mario games aren't nearly as offensive in this regard when compared to, say, Rare's N64 output but it's still enough to annoy me. Another reason to stick to retro 2D platformers amiriteladies.

Yeah brah... I'd give 3D World a lot of slack there. It was hardly a collectathon even compared to Galaxy 2 (which stripped that down a lot from Galaxy). The simplicity and linearity (nice classic overworld maps) was something I absolutely loved about 3D World. I don't remember having to "grind" out levels at all for the star coins or whatever to unlock the later tougher areas, though I didn't get the last level or two unlocked. I was still knee deep into the advanced areas and naturally unlocked 90% of it.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I prefer having the option to simply zoom through levels or hunt for tucked-away stuff.
