Nintendo Component Cables
Nintendo Component Cables
Is there anyway to connect a gamecube to a progressive scan television without purchasing the official nintnedo cables? Will the new Wii cables work? I am eager to find out how get my Gamecube running in progressive scan mode but do not want to pay $60 for wires.

I'm 99% sure the answer is no on all counts.Mega-Dan wrote:Is there anyway to connect a gamecube to a progressive scan television without purchasing the official nintnedo cables? S-Video cables would be you next best bet:

(they also work on the N64 and SNES)

There is. Just buy yourself a third party Gamecube VGA cable, play only titles which support prog scan, and hold B during boot time.
If your TV doesn't have a VGA input, you would then have to convert the VGA line to component cables, but obviously this would be pointless if you could just get official component cables.
Also, back when I bought a VGA cable for the cube, there were no third parties making them. You just had to make one yourself using the official component cables and some other parts. But then a couple groups started to professionally manufacture them for a much cheaper price.

Hmm, strange that it mentioned ghosting and such. I didn't experience any back when I had a poorly made cable, and I was using a CRT, so I would have noticed.

Kinda a roundabout way if you don't have VGA, but whatever worksMozgus wrote:There is. Just buy yourself a third party Gamecube VGA cable, play only titles which support prog scan, and hold B during boot time.

TBH, if you just get a wii, it can play the GCN games that are pro-scan compatable in pro-scan with the Wii Component cable. But definately get something. Some games look amazing. F-zero, RE4, SCII, SSB:M, BEAUTIFUL! Also, many games are pro-scan compatable BUT do not say so in the manual OR on the box. I believe all nintendo games are pro-scan except Pikmin one and two. Dono why, but I couldn't get those two to play in pro-scan. Tis a shame, considering how beautiful the games are.

Damn, too bad I don't have more widescreen games
But I gotta get Timesplitters 3 knowing it's got WS and pro-scan, both things that 2 left out.

My favorite console FPS of all time, and it was the only cube title in my collection that I couldn't play on my monitor. God...I was so frustrated with that. I finally tried TS3 on PS2 later, but the sticks arent nearly as responsive as cube's, and the framerate felt..."slippery".metaleggman wrote: Damn, too bad I don't have more widescreen games

Definately my Fav as well. Beats the pants off of Halo in my book. I mean, a monkey versus a badass cyborg? How can you compete?Mozgus wrote:My favorite console FPS of all time, and it was the only cube title in my collection that I couldn't play on my monitor. God...I was so frustrated with that.
