Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Never had a high opinion of Naughty Dog games. Feel Crash games even back then were mediocre. I have only played Uncharted 3 and TLOU of their modern games and felt they were kinda crap game play wise.

I didn't like Crash or Jak and Daxter. I've beaten Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and both of those Uncharted games were kinda meh. Based on those two Uncharted games, I think Naughty Dog makes bank off their technical/graphical showcasing much more so than actual good game design.Segata wrote:Never had a high opinion of Naughty Dog games. Granted, I still haven't played the other Uncharted games nor The Last of Us, so my verdict's not final.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

TLOU human AI is some of the worst in any game I have played. Besides the face they run straight at you with a melee weapon when you have a gun,you can sneak in front of them and they do not see or hear you sometimes.Exhuminator wrote:I didn't like Crash or Jak and Daxter. I love Crash 1. Never beat it though.
Jak & Daxter was pretty bad, but I forced myself through it with the HD trilogy release. I played about 10 minutes of 2, after dying to confirm how evil the checkpoints are from everything I've heard, yeah I was done with it. I hated 1 already, the serious tone shift was hilariously weird, and a platformer with guns and no strafing mixed in with GTA elements is the last thing I'd want to play. I have more Ratchet & Clank and Sly to play, so I'm done with Jak.
Uncharted 1 is dreadful, couldn't even finish it.
2 is okay, but took me like two weeks to beat it despite being 6 hours long. I've gotten better at engaging in these cinematic movie type games, but they will never be my preference. I pretty much hated the combat/controls, way too fluid and weird.
Never hear much about 3. Haven't played it.
4 interests me because the writers for The Last of Us took over and it just sounds like finally 4 games later, they made okay gameplay. I thought about buying the HD collection of the trilogy but then realized who am I kidding... I'll probably just buy 4 sometime. It's not a series I'm THAT interested in so I don't really care to skip around. But 4 sounds cool and worth checking out.
The Last of Us was fantastic. The combat is still nothing to freak out about, but everything about it and the crafting element made it 10x better than Uncharted to me.
But frankly, the Tomb Raider reboot was easily way better than Naughty Dog's stuff by far to me from a gameplay/combat standpoint and I recall the platforming being damn good too. I'm not a diehard Tomb Raider guy, but I've grown up with the series and have played some of them off and on and never really had a bad time with any of them. I'm very excited to get to Rise of the Tomb Raider. I am sure that its gameplay destroys Uncharted 4's.

Uncharted 2 is the best of the series, in my opinion. The Last of Us is solid, with some spectacular presentation, which is where they hang their hat. It really is like playing a movie, for better or worse. Sometimes, I love that kind of stuff.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I hated Last of Us, put it down and sold it. The gameplay on it is just rough, you can end up getting mauled at times just because the camera or controls don't keep up. I never had that problem with Uncharted 2 or 3, 1 a little but it was a learning game for them and still was quite solid despite having some stiff/annoying moments. U3 wasn't as good as U2 and 4 supposedly isn't as good as any of the trilogy on PS3. I had it, never opened it after reading gripes, and sold the thing as I put my PS4 gaming interests to bed as I found the PC more rewarding. Uncharted 2 was the most quality cinematics and gameplay along with story all around.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
The reason i see as to why Uncharted and TLOU is so well received i that naughty are very good in keeping a balance between engaging narrative and characters with the gameplay, and this formula sets very well with the general audience on the PS3-4. Im the last person that would call these games masterpieces but they are far from being garbage.
Definetly Tomb raider reboot had better gameplay than uncharted, but i still think that NAthan drake and friends are more memorable and fun characters than Lara and friends.

I completely agree with you. The general audience will never say it but they love when the game feels like a movie or more "cinematic" and thats the main reason those games are so popular, in my opinion.Sarge wrote:Uncharted 2 is the best of the series, in my opinion. All I will say is that it was fascinating to play The Last of Us and The Evil Within back to back, when I first got my PS4. Like I said, I love The Last of Us and I like it for what it is. But if we want to talk mechanics and videogames here...
The Last of Us is a standard third person shooter with ~3 enemy types and no real bosses or anything.
The Evil Within has a lot of weirder gimmicks, stats, upgrading, and probably 20 some enemy types and a dozen bosses. It's a Shinj Mikami game. The gameplay has way more depth.
The Evil Within was soooooooo much cooler in a lot of ways and more my thing. But the comparisons are a stretch even if they're kind of the same genre, so I love both... but since I played them back to back like that I'm always going to have this weird connection between the two.
Maybe someone knows what I'm trying to get at.

4 is up there, I'd say, could be a debate between that and 2 for the best one. That was pretty much the sentiment I saw when it came out, and what I felt about it when I beat it.Tanooki wrote: U3 wasn't as good as U2 and 4 supposedly isn't as good as any of the trilogy on PS3.
The first game is a bit rough on PS3, though I believe the PS4 port shifts it to the later game's engine/mechanics or something that, making it better. Really, that'd be the way to go with them if the TLOU HD edition is any indication. I think the only real loss is multiplayer.
I enjoyed all of them though, and TLOU. Not as something to replay over and over necessarily, but fun to just blast through.
I think the Tomb Raider reboots do have better gameplay, ultimately, but aren't entirely comparable either - Naughty Dog's games are very linear, whereas the TR games are a bit more open, similar to Arkham Asylum.
Expect the world, and maybe they'll fall short, but you pretty much get what it says on the tin with 'em. If it's not what you like, well, it's all subjective, but I don't think they're objectively bad.
