There is a translation for the PCE version of Emerald Dragon in the early stages. The translator is tied up with finishing Xanadu 1 & 2, but once that is over, as long as the hacker can show progress, it will proceed apace.

I might hit up PCE Emerald Dragon before the translation is done. I can probably get through it with my crappy Japanese capabilities. Especially with my knowledge of the Super Famicom game.
The Legend of Xanadu II is actually pretty playable without knowing Japanese. There's a good walkthrough on GameFAQs too. Can't say the same about the first game, which is much longer and harder overall too.

Even if I probably won't play half of these PCE oddballs I love when you guys post the art. Freaking amazing stuff.

Just go balls in to the PCE scene man. The initial price point is a bit high - I paid like $200 for my Duo - but now I'm getting all sorts of dank JRPGs for like $10 a pop.
And yeah, the artwork of these games is incredible. Really dig this one I got a few weeks ago:

Persona 5
Everything is so much smoother in this game in that regard this game excels at but when it comes to what matters most in Persona games the game falters. I have completed 4/7 dungeons and the story hasn't really gone anywhere. That would be just fine if there great characters to make up for it but quite frankly i don't really care all that much about this games cast. I like Morgana but the other characters are just mostly okay for me and they don't just do it for me as a team. I also really don't care about the whole phantom thief thing and at this point of the game it has become tedious to hear about phantom thief this and phantom thief that. I barely even take glance at the stuff the characters message on their phone about because they never really have anything interesting or funny to say in them.
The social links aren't really good either and i actually just fast forward through several of them.
Difficulty wise the game is a joke on normal. Not something that really bothers me personally because i like breesing through RPG's but at the same time it's disappointing that they don't take advantage of the great battle system that the series has.
One last thing i need to say that it's great that the main dungeons are hand build but the thing is that most of them aren't interesting. I would go as far as say that two of them were actually quite dull and i hope that they put more effort to dungeons in the next game.
Actually i was just remembering that there is one more thing i need to comment at and that's the music. Personally has been know for it's great OST since the third game but outside two tracks the rest of the tracks are just there in the background which is quite disappointing. Persona 3&4 are full of memorable tracks.

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
The only thing I can agree with you on is the OST being weak. A couple of the penultimate boss musics have been good, but compared to P3 and P4 the music is very low key, and not in a good way.
Speaking of, I just hit all kinds of end game story content and I'm in the last dungeon. My plan is to grind my ass off so I can fuse everything before I actually pull the trigger on doing the last boss. Fortunately, that won't require me to necessarily grind to max level, as I've unlocked the ability to pay some cash to fuse above my level. So it'll be a mix of level grinding and cash grinding. So while I doubt I'll finish the game on Monday I'll probably have it finished Wednesday (class on Tuesday so that's a lost day).

Since I'm messing with some GB emulators and such lately, the temptation is there...

Everyone sold me on this version for 1-2.
What about 3 though?
I plan to go with NES for 4. If I get there.

NES, Super Famicom, and GBC are all great. I'm a huge proponent of original hardware though. I say NES. Undeniable charm in those graphics.Xeogred wrote: What about 3 though?
Wait, is this your first time playing these. Oh boy.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Yeah I'm still a little tempted to check out the first two on the NES as well. Though I hear the GBC versions are a little refined and easier. They scare me a little I guess, but then again I beat FF3 (NES) so maybe these won't be a problem. I've always kind of assumed DQ is probably harder than FF.
I actually think grinding will be easy and fun in these with some podcasts in the background or something.
I played a few hours of DQ7 years ago. In those few hours, I never once got in a battle and years later discovered that yes, this seems like one of the longest JRPG's ever created. I quickly sold it because I never encountered a battle (this was one of the last games I sold before I quit trading games in, now I wish I still had it since it's worth a lot). I think I played maybe an hour max of DQ8. That covers my experience with this series.
I've basically beaten all the main line FF games, so I've been wanting to check this other series out for a long time now... I like that DQ1 looks to be about 10 hours long according to HLTB. So it should hopefully be some quick fun.
